I said elsewhere that there would appear to be a general rule to the effect that the richer and perhaps therefore more organized a country is, the less likely it will have archives which hold material and the more difficult it will be to absolutely determine whether a country which is less well off does or does not hold material in its archives. Conversely the richer a country is, the more likelihood there is of collectors. Obviously this is generalizing but it would seem to be the a plausible way of looking at things.

I’ve raised the subject of foreign 16mm collectors several times. We know that prints were “liberated” from the destruction pile in London in the 70s and this has to be because the magpie was either a 16mm collector, knew a 16mm collector or knew that they could sell them. There are places where prints ended up and were either returned to London or destroyed locally on London’s instructions. If there was an established local 16mm hobby then it’s possible that prints marked for destruction might have “escaped”. However, various people knowledgeable about those places have advised that there wasn't a 16mm “network”.

Ok, so the only countries left to search for prints are Nigeria, Ethiopia, Thailand, and Hong Kong. They're the only country whose fate of their prints isn't currently known.
We know that Australia and New Zealand junked their remaining prints in 1976 and 1974, respectively. We know that Canada likely junked their prints by 1978. We know that Iran and Kenya were contacted in the early 2000s by Ian Levine who confirmed that they no longer have any BBC material. We know Philip Morris visited Zambia in 2008 and confirmed that they no longer possess any BBC material, and recently in 2022, Philip Morris confirmed that Singapore no longer has any BBC material.
Therefore, were starting to run out of places to look for them. Unless we want to go look for missing episodes at Sydney or Wellington landfills (some have been converted to homes or parks a long time ago), Nigeria, Ethiopia, Thailand, and Hong Kong are the only places left to check.

👆 PM has been to Nigeria and considering how long ago he recovered EotW and WoF that’s probably to be considered a dry hole by now. I’m pretty sure he’s been to Ethiopia, but that’s now a war zone. Hong Kong returned Tomb a long time ago and it’s unlikely they’ve got anything else - even assuming they haven’t moved location.

Had anyone checked to see if ZDF in Germany still has all 6 audition prints for the Ice Warriors? They received then in 1968 in what was at the time West Germany, but they rejected the series. Even after reunification, they may still have the prints. If they do, we can make episodes 2 and 3 complete.
