I have found this interesting 3 minute post on YouTube featuring still photographs of acts that appeared on Top of the Pops during 1970 with the date of the performance. The acts and photographs featured in chronological order are as follows: Dusty and Tom Springfield, Aretha Franklin, The Beach Boys, Elton John, Marsha Hunt, Dana, Engelbert Humperdinck, Mr Bloe, Cilla Black and Pans People (costumes with no dates) + audience dancing (with no dates). www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8kDn-n2wJY

Wonderful stuff! 1970-early 1971 is by far my favourite era for the show.

Fantastic piece of work! Those colour photos are stunning. I've always considered 1970 to be a peak year for TOTP in terms of the way it looked and the sheer variety of acts featured.
Are any of those photos in your book Peter? (which I currently have on order by the way!)

Steve No Steve, apart from one pic that Steve Ellis gave me (+ a nice piece of memorabilia from Junior Campbell), there are no actual photograph as such. However, there are 10's of screen shots, all without TV logos! Hope you enjoy the book.

Great stuff but it's a shame that the Freda Payne caption reads "5th May 1970"...oops!

Wonderful stuff! 1970-early 1971 is by far my favourite era for the show. Loved the Mel Cornish era, it looked very slick and modern and ..er rather cheeky

They could edit Savile out and just show the music clips, but I suppose the mere fact he presented the programme is enough to consign it to the dustbin. A real shame as I love the 1970 shows and it would be great to see the performances by Jimmy Cliff, Dusty Springfield and Bobby Bloom, as well as Pan's People dancing to Jimmy Mack.

I'm sure I've seen the Pan's People 'Jimmy Mack' performance used in a clips show. In fact there is a whole 22 seconds of it to enjoy on YT...

I really like when people can imbed youtube videos as it let's me skip these sometimes longer than the clips ads they now have pushed onto everything, including quack health cure rip-offs (from 'well known' doctors in Arizona etc. that make me see red! It's awful on forums where a few people festoon pages and pages of trivial youtube clips as it can really slow loading, but surely here it could mean the difference between me getting to see something at all (blood pressure is a real concern; one minute long utter bunk ad followed by a three minute one has just kept me from a five minute clip of The Newcomers)!
Can't say I'm a Pan's People fan but at least I could run it without any bother.

1972 now added:
The Elton John clip DOES survive though!

All the pictures that are posted are of the performances which is great but sadly the E.L.O one is The Move performing 'Tonight'. Pity that.
