This is on my order list today and looking forward to it, it's seeing the Star Club LPs and the breadth generally that have me sold! So many of these albums are old familiars and I know I'll find out about some new to me releases here. Then on to Let's Stomp!

(and excuse late reply, I've been away for a week with no internet!). PS. Any Amazon reviews are always welcome.

Just received it today from Amazon and enjoyed a general scan through. I have most of Spencer Leigh's books and this is definitely as valuable to me.. Here's the short five star review I contributed... hope I didn't get anything wrong.
Very thorough.
Albums released in UK and U.S.A. are reviewed by all the English 'beat' era artists, from the famous to the very obscure, with information on the groups and artists. Also includes all the significant foreign releases up to 1970. I think even the older collector and music fan will learn of albums, and even acts, they had overlooked here!

Thank you Rebecca! I too have most of Spencer Leigh's books (one of my favourite authors, up there with Keith Badman, Alan Clayson and Andy Neill), so the comparison is a great compliment.

I thought for a moment I'd caught you out on omission of The Big Three... but then I remembered they'd only had an EP 'back in the day'. I think I had them mixed up slightly with a 'Live At The Cavern' LP with a number of artistes recorded... perhaps if a future update allowed Various Artists could be included?
I did see you mentioned The Big Three and others in your introduction too. Any thoughts for a companion covering 45s/EPs? Maybe it could measure the dimensions of a 7"er in sleeve... but I am really enjoying Race Up! which will keep me busy for quite awhile following up on new leads and bits I'd overlooked from the era. Nice to see the best Cliff recordings rated accordingly, I sometimes find they, and even The Shadows', get disrespected if not left out of things.

I did briefly include a few Various Artists albums in my "first draft" (as well as more 50s artists such as Lonnie Donegan and Tommy Steele), but eventually decided against it as I wanted to keep the page numbers to around the 300 mark. I just had to include Cliff and The Shadows though, a very important part of the 60s music scene, despite being considered far too uncool for shows like 'Ready, Steady, Go!'. As you'll see, I'm particularly a fan of The Shadows' vocal numbers.

I recently did an interview about this book (+ 'Shindig!' and other subjects) for Cleveland Ohio's 'The Ray Carr Show', enjoy!:
