Yesterday, I was going through some of my football VHS's and I came across ITV 1989-90 review of the season for Tottenham Hotspur (each 1st division club had their own one narrated by Jim Rosenthal using ITV commentators and released by CBS FOX/ITV video) The match Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur played on 9th September 1989 had BLACK AND WHITE footage yet all other 37 games that season on the Spurs video were in COLOUR.
Was this the VERY LAST football match broadcasted in BLACK AND WHITE ?

I don't think it was BROADCAST in monochrome. It might have only been recorded that way on the tape due to some defect, but if it'd been just shown that way, I think many of us would have remembered it!

Yes we are talking about a 30 year old tape in some instances the colour can be come unstable and will be judged to be switched off rather than become irritating and hence spoiling the enjoyment.

On checking another tapes last night, 1989-90 Race for the Championship and the Aston Villa version of 1989-90 Review of the Season, the same match is in black and white.

Argentina v England - a “friendly” match in 1977. Trevor Cherry loses his front teeth and gets sent off. This was in black and white. Does anyone know where it can be seen please?

I remember watching that. I have NEVER seen the footage online; it was filmed by Argentine TV in monochrome and, I think shown by satellite here. TV only went colour in Argentina in '78 prior to the World Cup. The only thing I can find is some 8mm (in colour):- www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5thDzzD8dg

The game was shown live on the BBC on Sunday 12th June 1977 with John Moston commentating, shown in black & white as you say.

I think that at the start of the Argentina v England game either the commentator or Jimmy Hill in the studio mentions that the Argentine tv service was still broadcasting in black and white but colour was coming for the world cup.

This is the Wikipedia entry for colour TV in Argentina.
Introduced for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. Regular full color transmission began at midnight on Thursday, May 1, 1980. ATC (LS 82 Canal 7) began on May 3, 1979 partially to broadcast in color, and in 1978 the final match as well as some second round matches were broadcast in color, when A78TV took over of Canal 7 airwaves during some games. Channel 13 had also partially broadcast in color since 1979 and had broadcast some matches in 1978 in color, taking advantage of its NTSC equipment, which made it the immediate predecessor of the PAL-N system.C anal 13 undertook non-public experimental transmissions in NTSC in 1969, but the project was cancelled due to lack of government approval.
