I image being on the SD mux and having Radio Times listings helped a lot. They told me that they would get into the Radio TImes when their ratings got to a certain level but at that time they were only on the HD mux on Freeview and, I think, that was area limited.

There's been ONE complaint. Ofcom have to investigate anything complained about, even by a solitary individual.

They’ve had similar issues in the past - again from a tiny number of complainants. We’re now in an age where you don’t have to do anything wrong, just “offend”.
I watch a reasonable amount of TPTV and it’s pretty rare for them to show things without some sort of “warning” up front.
If necessary I hope we’ll all rally round them - they’re one of the best channels around imho.

My point is, that if an individual complained about something banal (I'm going to be extremely facetious here), and say a Mr J. Rees-Mogg of West Harptree, Somerset complained about the glimpse of a ladies ankle, they would be duty-bound to investigate. Ofcom have to investigate all complaints against broadcasters, whatever the merits.

This isn't entirely new to our age either - it's just that mary whitehouse complained about a different kind of thing.

Good old Talking Pictures TV. The only real time TV channel we bother with these days Hmm. BBC4 has a lot of unusual stuff popping up from time to time. They recently re-screened 'Mother Love' as part of their tribute to Diana Rigg more than thirty years after its first broadcast. Lots of repeated music docs from past years and the odd dramatic gem like this. I think the problem is there is so little some people want to watch now that they never check the listings. I was talking about this with an elderly neighbour last week and she was quite despairing about it. She watches TalkingPicturesTV mainly. I don't have a TV licence so BBC TV and iPlayer are completely cut off to me (as they would be if it was a subscription). Nor do I consume any other channels. I have Mother Love on VHS from 1990 if I want to see it. So much is being fiddled with these days that I would rather watch VHS which, passed through a DVD recorder, is equivalent to standard definition iPlayer but retains 50i on non film material. I wouldn't be surprised if VHS HiFi audio is superior due to to the bitrate on iPlayer and Freeview too.

At no point did I mention racism or suggest that Mary Whitehouse knew about JS. Though she would have seen other stories about the programme in the press at the time. I would say her campaign was about the overall morality of the TV industry. Now we look back and we know some of what was going on.

I “grew up” with Savile and never suspected anything until the TV programmes after his death. Perhaps I’d have considered him a mummy’s boy or gay but not a paedophile.

I wish that had happened with Junior Showtime when I was a kid. I'm still scarred. OMG! that was like nails scraping on a blackboard in equivalent torture and yet it seemed to go on and on didn't it? but who the hell was watching it? Has there anybody EVER! admitted to seeking out lost episodes of Junior Showtime? LOL

it's curious that TPTV usually has to mute 'bastard' etc from the old programmes today when at the time the F word was a complete no - no in programmes but is the opposite today when the F word is rampant in TV and bastard is the no no.
There might have been no LIDL but there were plenty of 'Keymarkets' 'Fine Fayre' 'Mace' 'International' etc to stand in a queue in LOL

It is very odd that "bastard" is bleeped.

I can't see a NHP episode actually called 'Bastard', but My Father is My Brother (27 Apr.1964) might come up with the goods!
