With Patrick Troughton stories well on the way to being completed with animation i was just wondering what obscure Hartnell story fans would like to see completed first with animation and why. To make it more intresting i am excluding the following titles because i believe there obvious candidate's as fans seem to want these a lot and I'm looking for thoughts and reasons why outside the box. So i exclude: 1) Marco Polo 2) Daleks Masterplan 3) Mission To The Unknown (Unlikely due to the live action recreation i feel)
Would be really intersted in thoughts and stories thanks.

If Auntie is looking for a complete season blu ray release then the two episodes of The Crusade complete Season Two.
Then do the seven episodes of Marco Polo and Season One is complete.
That’s nine episodes that give two complete seasons. There’s no point in excluding MP as its animation makes a lot of sense.

Well anything from Season Three will do me, Myth Makers, Massacre, Toymaker etc. Such a lot of good stories.

The problem with Season Three is that there’s so much missing that it’s difficult to see any sort of strategic approach.
However, five episodes of Space Pirates finishes Season Six - complete season blu ray release.
Then do Snowmen and Wheel (nine episodes) and that’s Season Five - another complete season blu ray release.
Fourteen episodes gives you another two complete seasons.

Sorry just to make myself clear i excluded Marco Polo as I'm sure this will be done as a fan favourite. I'm just wondering what obscure ones people would like done. Thanks some great replies so far

I personally would love The Celestial Toymaker think it would look great and this would be a good 1 in colour to...althought being a traditionalist I tend to watch in black and white but that's just my preference

For William Hartnell I would go with the less known stories suck as "The Massacre", "The Celestial Toymaker" and "The Savages".

The problem is ultimately cost and effort. The Crusade is probably the worst candidate out there for release. Two episodes to be animated with huge casts, costume changes, extravegent set design and of the two episodes that still exist... a big chunk of the budget is coming from convincing the Americans to broadcast these, and rather unfortuantely The Lion is not in particularly great shape to be airing alongside a brand new animation in high definition.
Personally I expect The Celestial Toymaker is going to be first, possibly Galaxy 4 being in with a shout as there's really not much to do there (army of clones versus slugs with robots in a couple of sets). The other unlikely choice I'll throw out there is Marco Polo getting in first if they order it for the 60th anniversary, otherwise I expect it will get kicked down the road because historicals are complicated work no matter how much of a fan favourite it is.

It's a good topic - thanks for raising this. I was thinking about it this morning. We have 2 companies working on animations for Troughton stories at present - wouldn't it make sense to have one of these working on Hartnell stories instead? See if we can get some consistency in the animation styles for the remaining Troughton's? Not moaning at all - Troughton is my favourite and I welcome all the releases, but just throwing it out there as an observation.
My picks would be:
1. Myth Makers (top of my list to have recovered outside of the regeneration stories) 2. The Crusade (to complete season 2 as others have said. Plus I really do enjoy the historical stories. Doesn't always have to be an alien does it? A costly one no doubt, but they can get that Season 2 box set out soon after and rake in the cash from us eager collectors!) 3. The Smugglers (to get Hartnell's contribution to Season 4 completed - remarkable that we are not far off having all the stories for season 4 available hey)
That would be my top 3 outside of MP and DMP. Not worried as much on Mission as I think the recreation works really well. Having that lowers the priority for animation for me. Would not be upset with any of the Hartnell stories being announced for animation though to be honest. Just eager for some of the 60's seasons to be released on the box sets!

Honestly, - The Myth Makers - The Massacre - The Celestial Toymaker - The Smugglers
I love pure historicals and I feel like Season 3 is being done SUPER dirty in the animations. It has missing material on a similar level to Seasons 4 & 5 and all the focus is going to them. I understand the complications around Master Plan, but the other stuff would be really easy. If they are worried about the monetary benefit of historicals, start with The Celestial Toymaker or just animate them, give them small releases, then put them on Collection box sets. The Collection sets are making the BBC huge amounts of money (they're all being pre-ordered out on Day 1). I just think that Hartnell has been done a little dirty by the animation range. He has 44 missing episodes and they've animated 3. Troughton has 53 missing episodes and they've animated 26 (with 1 upcoming, + Wheel Episode 1). I'm hugely grateful for all that they're doing but I wish Hartnell would get more focus.

As I said, what’s your strategic aim? Someone has to fund it and the current “flavour of the month” seems to be complete seasons on blu ray. The episodes of the Crusade may be difficult so just do the two that are missing - like Moonbase but not like Faceless Ones. The restoration technology has improved, see a recent post from PV, so the Lion could well be revisited, as could Time Meddler which, iirc, wasn’t VidFired. Forget what fans may, or not, want it’s all down to money. Would two episodes of Crusade be easier - and cheaper - than, for example, seven episodes of Marco Polo? I suspect so but the various animation houses could probably advise very quickly. That’s almost certainly the easiest way to get a complete b&w season. Season Six is next, followed by Season One.

Give it time and we will have them all. Remember back when "The Invasion" was released on DVD in September 2006. At that time we were told the only reason those were included on the DVD as they were given to the Restoration Team by BBCI or what ever they were called back then. And that those would be the only two animated. Next thing you know we got "The Ice Warriors", "The Moonbase", "The Tenth Planet" and "The French Revolution" animated as they met the 50/50 rule.
Now 15 plus yeas later we have "The Power of the Daleks", "The Macra Terror", "The Faceless Ones" and "Fury from the Deep" with "The Evil of the Daleks" and "The Abominable Snowman" on the way as well as "Web of Fear" #3..
So give it another 10 years and just think where we will be, never give up. The BBC likes money and we Dr. Who fans spend money on Dr. Who like its going out of style. So just be patient
