This recently-recovered live performance from Easter Sunday 1966 saw Duke Ellington presenting his music suite In the Beginning... God, in the spectacular setting of Coventry’s post war modernist Cathedral.

A trailblazing fusion of secular and sacred, this Easter Day show featured the European Premiere of Duke Ellington's Concert of Sacred Music. Showcasing his suite In the Beginning... God, Ellington defines the cathedral as "a magnificent place to do magnificent things" and believes that his music here is "one of the most satisfying things I've ever done. And the most important. Personally important."

Amazing find as the Duke had written a score that was not expected of him,thus not commercial enough for any one to touch it in the US, dear old ABC UK comes to the rescue.
