Channel 5 showed a clip of Queens first performance on Top of the Pops of Queen The Band that Rocked Tonight. It looks likes someone's recording rather than the broadcast version

Three different performances survive, all less-than-perfect off air recordings:
21-02-74 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ (UK): Seven Seas Of Rhye (Queen’s 1st UK hit, ‘Seven Seas Of Rhye’ peaked at No. 10. For this first of three ‘Top Of The Pops’ performances, Freddie wears a black shirt and black trousers with a silver belt)
14-03-74 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ (UK): Seven Seas Of Rhye (This time Freddie wears a black V-neck shirt and a gauntlet on the right hand)
28-03-74 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ (UK): Seven Seas Of Rhye (For the 3rd and final performance of this song on the show, Freddie wears a two-tone shirt and trousers with the gauntlet on the right hand)
(Info above taken from my book 'Look Wot They Dun!')

Great track! Never tire of hearing it!. Excellent to know that three performances survive, I only thought one did. Are they all in black & white? Does anyone know if the three performances are available to view anywhere?

Oh, so they recorded a new performance every few weeks? I would have thought they'd simply repeat the "old" clip, and I wouldn't even blame them.
Off-air from 1974, well that's bound to look a bit dodgy of course.

I've got the feeling at least one is from Bob Monkhouse or Dick Emery's video collection, someone here will know better.

I've got the feeling at least one is from Bob Monkhouse or Dick Emery's video collection, someone here will know better. Aren't you confusing this with a version of 'Killer Queen'? Again, here's what I wrote in 'Look Wot They Dun!': 11-10-74 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ (UK): Killer Queen (The band’s 1st worldwide hit, ‘Killer Queen’ got to No. 2 in the UK and Ireland, No. 3 in Holland, No. 12 in the US and Germany, No. 15 in Canada and No. 24 in Australia. For this first ‘Top Of The Pops’ performance, Freddie wears a white shirt and a black sparkled jacket. Unfortunately only part of this still survives)
24-10-74 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ (UK): Killer Queen (Freddie wears a fur coat on this 2nd ‘Killer Queen’ performance)
07-11-74 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ (UK): Killer Queen (This is a repeat of the 11-10-74 performance)
21-11-74 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ (UK): Killer Queen (Unlike with ‘Seven Seas Of Rhye’, not all performances of ‘Killer Queen’ survive, with this particular one lost)
Here's the 11-10-74 performance (I think it came via Dick Emery's estate though I wouldn't swear to it!):

I might be getting mixed up with either Killer Queen or possibly Now I'm Here.

I might be getting mixed up with either Killer Queen or possibly Now I'm Here. The second Killer Queen performance (24-10-74) was used on Sounds of the 70s probably TOTP2 too. Queen themselves feature it as a bonus on their Greatest Pix 1 & 2 VHS set, I'm not sure if it's on the DVDs.

Thanks for letting me know, I think it was included on the set because Killer Queen doesn't have a video for it, apart from the introduction to Greatest Flix (not pix that was an art book!), which VH1 Classics has used in lieu of a video.

Personally I think their Dutch TV 'Top Pop' appearance would've made a better "Video" than TOTP.
