Just learnt that Dave Munden, drummer and singer for The Tremeloes, died today. A great loss!

Six songs live in Germany back in 1992 (Yellow River / Candy Man / Do You Love Me / My Little Lady / African Lullaby / Angel Of The Morning):
(Not the greatest of quality but worth sharing I think!)

The Tremeloes at their live best! Yes, a very enjoyable set- and watch out for the camera collision just after 9m17s !
'Doing Their Thing' was an excellent and varied series. I enjoyed the Granada Plus re-runs back in the 1990s. The camera direction was always very lively! It would be great to know more about the background of the show. I think it originally went out around tea-time, which always seems an odd sort of slot for 'serious' music, although I think the BBC's short-lived 'Monster Music Mash' from 1969 was another series which had a similar transmission time. Maybe years of 'OGWT' and 'Later...' have conditioned us to expecting 'serious' music shows late in the evening.
I suppose that the variety of musical genres featured on 'Doing Their Thing' would count against a dvd set. Deep Purple or Free fans are unlikely to be interested in Georgie Fame or The Marmalade and vice-versa. And did I imagine it or were Family on it too? Would be lovely to enjoy the shows in pristine quality though....

Thanks Peter. An even more varied selection than I thought- Tir Na Nog no less! Yes Marmalade and The Trems are great editions, showing that both groups were impressive live. In fact all the DTT editions I've seen have been a good watch. Most are on YT in varying degrees of ropey quality. Going back to the Tremeloes, they were an excellent band and appear to have enjoyed a particularly good relationship with the BBC, recording dozens of live sessions for insertion in various radio shows. The double CD compilation set of these also reveals that the band interviewed well too. They seemed happy to appear on anything from Crackerjack and Basil Brush to TOTP and purveyed the kind of uncomplicated good-time pop that was acceptable to a wide audience; possibly that sounds a bit dismissive, in fact they released some terrific late-60s singles and worthwhile album tracks, occasionally with a nod to psychedelia. The Trems and The Marmalade recorded equally good versions of 'I Shall Be Released' too: www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2QZpq0HsncSteve

The Tremeloes seemed to have a slow but steady career in the 1960s, managing to survive the departure of Brian Poole without too much trouble.

The Tremeloes seemed to have a slow but steady career in the 1960s, managing to survive the departure of Brian Poole without too much trouble. As with the post-Paul Jones Manfred Mann and the post-Wayne Fontana Mindbenders, they surprised everyone! Unlike most bands though, there was no apparent ill feeling between Brian Poole and his former colleagues, with numerous reunions over recent decades (on the 1964-1967 BBC collection Brian can be heard introducing The Tremeloes' 'Good Day Sunshine' while The Tremeloes back Brian on a superior version of his debut "solo" record 'Hey Girl'!).

Here's a song from 'Blue Peter', 30th September 1965:
Also apparently performed that day was 'I Want Candy', can anyone confirm that this still survives? Would love to see it!

I had read he has rejoined them for reunion tours over the years.

As recently as 2017 Brian, Dave and Chip toured as 'Brian Poole and The Tremeloes', all singing (only) while backed by Vanity Fare. They were highly entertaining, though Dave was looking a little frail & unsteady on his feet even then, and Chip had gone temporarily bald as he was having chemo at the time. I met both Brian and Dave afterwards, having a brief chat & getting them to sign my CD... ironically it was Chip who was too ill to come back out! I was due to see the current incarnation of The Tremeloes (fronted by Chip) this year, but it has been postponed due to Covid.
