Front Page Story
ATV 1965
Producer Rex Firkin and script writer Wilfred Greaterox, followed up their success with The Plane Makers, with this Fleet Street newspaper series as a replacement for their earlier hit. Front Page Story took the authentically portrayed reporters out of the office and into the streets. Firkin's production crew used a special mobile self-contained tape and sound recording unit that allowed them to shoot scenes on-the-run anywhere and at almost any time - fast-moving, on-location tape shooting. Derek Godfrey, Derek Newark, Harry Towb and Patrick Mower as the reporters, while Derek Godfrey, Roddy Macmillan, John Bennett and Ivor Dean are the editors.
All 26 episodes exist in the ITV Archive. Many familiar names appeared in the episodes, among them are Suzan Farmer, Keith Barron, David Lodge, Sydney Tafler, Vladek Sheybal, Bernard Archard, John Carson, Rupert Davies, Diana Coupland, Ursula Howells, Annette Andre, Penelope Keith, Carmel McSharry, Unit 4 Plus 2 and many, many more! So the inevitable question again, is why has this series been overlooked for release either on dvd, or perhaps even to be shown on Talking Pictures TV.

Drop TPTV a polite, friendly email and suggest it.
They’ve shown several films I’ve asked for 📽
Amazing what you can achieve by being nice to people - and they’re nice people 👍
They seem to be able to get ITV stuff but haven’t cracked Auntie yet 👎

Try Network.
It must be one of the first drama series to use OB equipment.
Stands by to be corrected......

I think The Plane Makers used some OB rather than film on location, at least it looks and sounds like it on the DVDs, but a more conventional O/B system not with the recorder in a van on site.
