My favourite series ever! Perfect television. It's actually my favourite series ever too I was initially going to say that in my first draft but you have now said it, so I thought I'd now have to say what I should have said earlier.

Great, I was wondering when it was going to come back after Sony bought True Entertainment.
I remember first seeing it when BBC2 showed them on a Friday evening in the 1990s.

I first saw it on lunch time repeats in the early 70’s . No idea why I didn’t see the original run. Hooked ever since. The remake with Vic & Bob could have been better but had its moments. Should have been more faithful to the original IMHO.

I managed to miss the first episode on Monday, but recorded tonight's.
The remake wasn't awful, but I agree that Vic & Bob's style of humour wasn't right for the show.
The BBC screened the show a few times, the last run at lunchtimes when they seemed to have an oldies strand about 20 years ago. I remember Man In A Suitcase & Quincy were shown in a similar slot.

It didn’t help that they cast Vic & Bob in the main two roles the wrong way round IMHO. The lunch time repeats of the original series in the early 70’s were I think, on Anglia. We lived in Lincolnshire at that time, & I’m reasonably sure that the repeats were before the Belmont transmitter switched to broadcasting Yorkshire TV on (IIRC) the 1st Jan 1974, so maybe 72/3?

I did read that the repeats ended for a few years after the premature death of Mike Pratt.
Some ITV regions gave them another run in the late 1980s.

Great, I was wondering when it was going to come back after Sony bought True Entertainment. It was screened at least 3 times last year. Can't remember if that was on the Sony Channel or another channel.

Some ITV regions gave them another run in the late 1980s. Yes, this is when I watched them all (though I do vaguely remember them from first time round!).

An incident remembered by a few was just before an episode of R&H in the afternoon in the 70s, Thames anchorman David 'diddy' Hamilton had said what was going to be on later and then said something like "Now we understand actor Mike Pratt is in a local hospital - if you are watching Mike we are thinking of you here and this is just for you - go Randall and Hopkirk .."

It's a terrible shame that Mike Pratt died so very early- he missed out on the latter day resurgence of interest and affection for Randall & Hopkirk. He would also have been in great demand for fan conventions and would have made a wonderful guest discussing his television work at a Kaleidoscope event. If only he knew!
I'm currently watching series 6 of the excellent BBC drama 'The Brothers', which turned out to be Mike's final role as pilot Don Stacy, alongside Kate O'Mara as his ex-wife and business partner. It was made in 1976 and I believe he went into hospital during the making of the series and passed away before taping was complete. I'm not sure how he was written out as I'm only on episode 2!

Yes as Mike or Jeff he seemed to have been well-liked all over.. and it seems by chatter elsewhere that younger people pick up on R&H for their first time during an umpteenth run and instantly fall in love with it and can't stop adding clips to YT, web pages about it, etc. .
