Dear all, In case this has been overlooked a filmed-off-the-telly clip of The Alan Bown! on Disco 2 has appeared www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_8yekSliDs The broadcast date is 11th July 1970 according to my notes, so maybe the 2nd July date given on the clip is the recording date? The track Curfew was from their debut Island LP, Listen and the audio is overdubbed onto the clip. The poster only has this one clip on their site.

Nice find. There was an amazing range of acts on Disco 2, if only they all survived!

The Alan Bown!'s surviving 1968 TOTP appearance was also filmed from the screen. Presumably by the same person?

Wow! Just... wow. How absolutely fantastic to see this footage (both Disco 2 and TOTP) There is something undeniably magical about seeing such frail footage that has survived by a million-to-one chance. Full marks to the diligence of the YT posters for syncing the visuals to the music as best they could.
I wonder if the people who originally filmed the performances were enthusiastic enough to also have their tape recorders running at the same time, with the hope of playing picture and sound back roughly together-ish to recreate the original experience when the film came back from the developers.

Looking at the entry on TV Brain for this edition of Disco 2 it states:
11.07.1970 With Steeleye Span, Alan Bown & Justine One or more sequences exist, but the complete programme is lost.
Does that mean there is further additional surviving content from that show? I suppose it depends when the Alan Bown footage was discovered (uploaded only last month) and whether Kaleidoscope are aware of it.

So none of 'Disco 2' from 1970 officially survives? I just found out that The Honeybus appeared on the show to promote their just released 'Story' album. I never knew. I think we can call 1970 'The Year Of The Wipe'.
