It was not the entire archive, but one place. Because other episodes did return. The story seems pretty definite.

Yeah Reign of Terror had 2 episodes that were stored in a different location which is why they were not able to be returned with the other episodes back in 1984.

Cause those 2 episodes (Episodes 4 and 5), along with some episodes of The Aztecs and The Sensorites, were stored in a vault in northern Nicosia, which was unfortunately destroyed in the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. The only reason the other episodes survived because they were in the main CyBC buildings in Southern Cyprus, where they escaped being touched by the Turks, since Turkey only focused on Northern Cyprus.

Was this split off? I'm not sure if I ever started a topic in this fashion.

The thread was started by Ken Jacowitz. Don't know what happened to his original post. I'm equally mystified why Angel felt the need to resurrect a thread from almost 4 years ago simply to post information that is already known.

Didn't someone recently tell him not to create new threads for everything?

In theory, I see nothing wrong with him adding additional information to an old trend if applicable.
Equally, we can also not respond if there's nothing of value to add.

Why reopen a 4-year old thread to post 30-year old information? No one was waiting for further clarification or expansion. Just because you learned something recently, is no reason to search through the forum to find somewhere to display your newly-found knowledge.

Because nothings been said on the forum for a bit so some feel the need to say something regardless of any point. 🤷

If you have something valid to add to the conversation, then fine, but posting repeated information just for the sake of it really irritates people.

Mind you if people use the search button they might have found the relevant thread and could have continued the conversation from it. Having said the extra finer details about Cyprus storage was new to me and and welcome info.

This is incorrect. The building housing the Cyprus historical film archive, in which were several DW episodes was destroyed in the attempted coup that preceded the Turkish invasion.

You're right, Paul. You said it was destroyed in the 1974 coup attempt in Richard Mollesworth's "Wiped" book. But why do many sources keep saying that it was destroyed in the Turkish invasion of the same year? Was it due to timing or a mistake reported during the 1984 recovery that lead to the widespread misconception about when the prints of episodes 4 and 5's destruction.

Maybe because people like you keep repeating it as unqualified fact, as you did when you needlessly reopened this thread, and moreover which you repeated as unqualified fact even though you are now saying you are aware of the complete contradiction of it by a key authority on the matter.
