I have just been watching some extracts from Candid Camera circa 1973/74 (I think) and was pleasantly surprised at how funny they still are, especially those featuring the wonderfully deadpan delivery of Arthur Atkins. As far as I'm aware nothing has ever been available on DVD or has it? I recall some VHS volumes being around in the late 80s or early 90s, hard to find now. Sadly the quality of the bits and pieces uploaded to YouTube isn't that great - does anyone know of the show's archive status? I think this would be a superb DVD release for Network or a similar company, as I would dearly like to see them again. What are the chances?

An LWT show..so surely it must all exist somewhere?..but maybe the participant's rights have expired and it would cost too much to find them all again?

LWT showed it but didn't/don't own it - when I was trying to use clips back in 1998, the 1970s UK version of Candid Camera was still owned by Candid Camera Inc. in the US though I think Fremantle had a few - it was all very complicated... But the rights are a nightmare and difficult to clear - I don't think any commercial showing would be possible as it simply wouldn't make enough money for the rights owner to make it worth their while.

Central showed I think the whole series in about 1985 so I wonder what they did to clear the rights for that at the time? Maybe as Central had the deal with Fremantle as was then to make Blockbusters, maybe the rights to show that came with it? But what also interests me is whether Beadle's About had to be made by arrangement with them or the then owners of the Candid Camera format?

A least two were shown on Granada too around 1986 as Mark has suggested. I taped them at the time and transferred them recently. Attachment Deleted

That car parking stunt was really funny, as was Arthur Atkins at the fruit stall where he was asking how much the plastic fruit was!
