I can remember watching this show on the telly in the early 70’s. Please could someone tell me if it’s in the archives? I think it was on film not VT.
There’s nothing on YouTube as far as I can see.
Thank you.

Bit of a strange one Lost shows says The first series from 1969 is missing and it ran till 1973, so you would assume the rest exist with the BBC - It also mentions a series from 1964 being missing, but I can find no evidence of an earlier series. Perhaps Ray or someone can elaborate? www.tvbrain.info/tv-archive?showname=Diddymen&type=lostshow

There were four series of Ken Dodd and the Diddymen. The 1969 Christmas Special and series 2-4 are in the archive.
The Diddymen used to show up in lots of other Ken Dodd shows, and specifically were part of the regular cast for Series 4 of The Ken Dodd Show, of which only two episodes exist.

The Diddymen ...specifically were part of the regular cast for Series 4 of The Ken Dodd Show Were they puppets? The same ones used in the later show? Or were they child actors? He performed with both during his career.

(Repeated 19 Nov.1972). 16 Jan.1972 A Star is Born. (Repeated 29 Oct.1972).23 Jan.1972 The Plague of the Diddy Fireflies. (Repeated 10 Oct.1972 and 29 July 1973). 20 Feb.1972 Shipwrecked. With Reuben Martin. (Repeated 01 Oct.1972 and 01 July 1973). 27 Feb.1972 The Great Jumping Bean Disaster. With Peter Wheeler and Paula Tilbrook. (Repeated 17 Jun.1973). 08 Oct.1972 The Crime Wave. With Arthur Mullard and Ian Trigger. Repeated 30 Jan.1972 and 15 July 1973).
The first two supplied by TVBrain, the rest from BBC Genome, if anyone should care to check. (Which might be a good idea).
IMDB don't give any T/X dates. Were the 1973 shows all repeats?

I hear my name being called....
Ok; the BBC had a number of Ken Dodd Shows which were broadcast between '59 and '69 and I think these are what the honorable gentleman refers to.
34 shows made; three exist as telerecordings and there is one audio too.

(by the way, I heartily recommend Louis Barfe's 'Laughter and Tears'. Louis' Les Dawson tome was wonderful.)

I seem to remember a time when Diddymen were mentioned by Doddy but not seen; at least I was quite surprised one day when he introduced them, though I can't remember if they were puppets or people in costumes at that point.

What? Are you actually telling me after all these years that the Diddymen weren't real? Please tell me you are joking.

They're as real as Santa. In other words, no human may set eyes on the real Diddymen, only avatars. Same thing happens on Missing Episodes, usually, though in my case I use my actual photo.
