Fantastic! I love the simplicity of the story - none of the 'regeneration history', 'how will they measure up?', 'bookmaker odds', 'mythology', Zoe Ball hyperbole / shoved out of context into the middle of a Wimbledon final b*llocks you get these days. They're just changing the actor out of the blue. Tune in to see more.
The story about the vicar and the choir girl was nice too.

Interesting that the article says PT would be debuting in the role "a week tomorrow". That would have been when episode 1 of The Smugglers aired, so I'm guessing there may have been one or two puzzled (and perhaps disappointed!) viewers wondering when Daleks were going to turn up in 17th-century Cornwall!

Wow,Mr Patrick Troughton is going to be the next Mr Dr Who!Hopefully he'll have more exciting adventures against Mr Daleks and Mr Cybermen! And I'm hoping one day Mr someone will invent a machine so I can watch them all over again whenever I want! I wonder how that will pan out...

I remember a program on BBC1 back then with Pat being interviewed about taking over as The Doctor. Can’t remember any details as such, just it being on. I know it must have been BBC1 as we were, like most of the country still on 405 lines & could only receive BBC1, BBC1 Scotland and Border.

Not really a clue I’m afraid, I think it was aimed at adults, possibly a news magazine program of some sort, possibly Tonight if it was still broadcasting then? A long time ago & I was very young!

Pondering this some more, perhaps an early evening chat show? Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Unless it was Blue Peter. It wasn't BP. All the many Who related editions have been well documented in an issue of DWM which I don't have to hand but it was not on that list. I am sure there is a similar article detailing all Troughtons TV performances sourced from royalty payments. Junior Points of View perhaps?

That’s a possibility, as you say definitely not Blue Peter, I would have remembered that. Gut feel is that it was an early evening chat or magazine program aimed at adults but it could well have been Junior Points of View. Couldn’t have been too late as past my bedtime then 😂😂😂😂. Would be nice to know for sure if the performance list turns up

For anyone interested the DW/Blue Peter article was in DWM 334. It is an excellent, lengthy piece written by Andrew Pixley accompanied by a check list of the relevant editions plus their archive status.
