Hello Everybody,
I hope we are all well online.
I was discussing the topic of future Animation Releases with friends and we had a bit of a stalemate on one option. I thought I would open it up to your good selves. It was suggested that a future release should be a double release of 'The Highlanders' and 'The Underwater Menace', with the Highlanders 4 eps animated and the 2 missing eps of UWM animated. It could billed along the lines of 'Jamie's Beginnings' or something similar. That way, should the Animations (forbid) were discontinued, fans would have a continuous run of serials from Tenth Planet through to Macra Terror within their DW collections.
What Do You Think?
All Thoughts on the subject would be Greatly Appreciated.
Best Stephen

I wonder if they will go with Fury from the Deep. The same reason as Macra, no episodes known to exist. I would release a special edition of Web of Fear, animated episode 3 in b&w. Would be relatively easy to do. Still think Dalek Masterplan would be a must, even if it’s split in two parts.

Best Stephen Sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure if the BBC is currently interested in animating partially missing serials at the moment. They seem to be focusing more on completely missing stories as that enables them to animate in colour and widescreen.

The problem is that when you do a double-release, it doesn't mean that you get double the money or double the time in order to do the work.
When trying to do two stories, you have two entirely different sets of assets to create from scratch and animate, both character and sets. The Doctor would pretty much be the only one that would be interchangeable for the most part, with reduced funds and time, it would ultimately impact on the final product.

My preference would be for something like The Space Pirates to be tackled. Basically any story for which an authentic Telesnap-style reconstruction is impossible (so yes, The Daleks' Master Plan would be very welcome, but I'm not holding my breath).
But if The Space Pirates was animated it would make a Season 6 Blu-ray set more straightforward at some point, as it would mean that all episodes in that season either survived or had been animated.

I say finish "The Crusades" and "The Underwater Menace as separate projects with the standard extras that we got on the DVD releases. Then do "The Smugglers" and "The Highlanders" so that we would have a complete run from "The War Machines" to "The Macra Terror".
The BBC could then release them as "The Ben and Polly Box Set".
Then work on say "Fury from the Deep", "The Abominable Snowman (with Web 3 as an extra) and "The Space Pirates.
You can of course reverse the order.

I think we can very safely say The Crusade is not happening any time soon. Those big Hartnell historicals just have too much work involved in them (even if it is "just" two episodes).

There only 2 episodes away from having a black and white blue ray set ready to go.. But I do see your point

Series 2 is the obvious candidate for a Blu-ray season set, with just 2 episodes lost, as you say, Robert. However, Charles Norton has gone on record saying that an animation of The Crusade is unlikely:
Therefore I guess it's a Telesnap recon for that one.

I'm going to suggest Myth Makers, then, following on what you're saying. I don't think there are many costume changes in that one, the dialogue is wonderful and there's great opportunity to draw scenery that wouldn't have been possible to produce in the original.
It's also my favourite Hartnell story.
After that, The Smugglers, my second favourite Hartnell story :-)

Wouldn't something like Galaxy 4 be really easy to do? Only 3 episodes and with only a few character models and backgrounds. It's (in my opinion) the perfect trial story to see if people will buy animations of 'lesser' stories.

Time will tell what actually gets animated. The BBC are cash loving people. Sooner or possibly later they will find a way to get every missing episode animated, time and patience will tell.

I'm sure with a TARDIS you could pop forward 30 years and find everything missing has been animated (and hopefully more actually found). I'm sure it will happen. I still would love to see a David Bradley remake of a missing story. The Massacre would be so powerful done as a modern actual remounted production.

I'd think Space Pirates would be relatively simple compared to Crusade - though I confess I've never been able to bring myself to read the book, or listen to the audio. But with a relatively small cast, and all on one or two spacecraft (as far as I know), I'd think the settings would be relatively simple, and minimal, with few wardrobe changes, etc.
And that completes Season 6. And possibly the only serial with missing episodes I've not ever once heard a rumour about!
