Slightly off topic but if you are fascinated by logos in general, then the following site has ancient idents and clocks you can download as screensavers etc, it does not appear to be maintained now and is starting to fall to bits in places ..so fill your boots while you still can...most of the files need 'flash player' installed. One of the very rare idents on site is the ATV ident used on progs during the colour strike which omitted the three blooming primary colours at the beginning and had a different music sting. 625.uk.com/tv_logos/flash/download_flash_scr.asp?file=bbc1_clock_84i think ATV originally made this ident for the colour strike but i have a feeling they used this right up until they handed over the franchise to central in 1982.i did see this ident in a 1980 continuity clip to proceed ITC's 'the munch bunch' on the old continuity booth website. i'm asking any forum members living the midlands seeing this what were your memories of this B/W version of the zoom ident? did ATV used this to start up old black and white films,or in 70s re-runs of 'dangerman' 'the saint' & 'fireball:XL5'? when i saw that clip ATV may used that to midlands audiences to proceed the 4 john read/mary turner series('rupert''mumfie''cloppa castle'& 'munch bunch')during the 70s.other ITV stations started those shows by going straight to the programmes rather than a ident.

I heard by Christmas 1985 the Noddy room at TVC had been decommissioned & the Robin model had to be set up elsewhere.
Noel Edmonds got the chance to destroy it in early 1986 on the Late Late Breakfast show, which makes me feel it wasn't very popular at the BBC.

My understanding is that the B/W ATV ident was made purely for shows made deliberately in black-and-white but that would be transmitted after the colour switchover, because not all programmes were made in colour immediately. Black and white movies wouldn't have used it, as they weren't ATV productions... not even APF/ITC stuff. Colour strike stuff was, I believe a mixture of Colour ident shown in B/W (if it had already been recorded in colour but the colour signal was filtered out when transmitted) or no ident at all, or a still ATV logo card as used for continuity announcements.

Does anyone know if there's footage of this online?
I remember watching it as a child. My Mum was horrified and wrote to the BBC to complain!
Had a dig round but couldn't find it.

I saw this screengrab of a BBC1 Cyrmu Wales Christmas ident, which was recovered by Kaleidoscope last year. Apparently it's from 1980 as it uses the same Futura type-face that was used for it's main ident at the time. The recording comes from a closedown on Christmas Eve that year. Attachment Deleted

This clip of the Rediffusion Christmas Ident from 1967, is probably unique for being one of very few idents from the pre-colour era that has surviving footage. Here's the ident as it was shown on the pilot episode of 'Do Not Adjust Your Set' (TX: 26/12/67), the episode was recovered recently along with the Summer 1968 special.

I'd started a thread about BBC1 Scotland's unique seasonal idents way back when! I remember Christmas 1976 & the BBC1 Scotland globe having a sort of "Spirograph" effect superimposed over the black & white globe -these were used by Queen Margaret Drive for Hogmanay & New Year's Day, as Network always seemed to bin their seasonal idents late Boxing day! 1977/78 used a sort of Sutekh time tunnel effect - also seen on "Colour Me Pop", again with the globe in monochrome superimposed. There is a reconstruction on You Tube. 78/79 - I can't be certain, but I think it was another "Spirograph" effect. 79/80 was a more elaborate affair, with a dangly fold out tinsel decoration using a mirror effect - this was seen on December 22 1979 before Part 1 of Horns Of Nimon - I know at least two fans who have recordings of this & it must be a dead cert for the Season 17 Blu Ray continuities on the "Extras" disc! 1979 / 80 :
