But that was no doubt the first thing he looked for; and haven't they stated that no extra Who has been found? Has he? I thought he said that no more Who recoveries were being announced. Apologies if I'm wrong & this has been clarified.
He said that his next batch of announced recoveries did not include any Doctor Who episodes, and as we have now seen it indeed did not contain any Doctor Who episodes. That was all, although I can understand why some people would be confused because misinformation spreads fast.

Be interested to know if the colour recovery processing on "Morcambe & Wise" was carried out before or after the scratch removal?

Thanks Paul, I suspected that would be the case.
I noticed dark areas of the image tend to produce more PAL quadrant errors (such as black clothing). Think that's because low luminance levels distort the chrominance patterning, since part of the waveform is "blacker than black": so it's not represented correctly on the film.
I think you could possibly fix that problem by setting the saturation to zero if the luminance falls below a minimum threshold, providing this was applied only to shots that warrant it. Would be very easy to code; though not sure how well it would work in practice.

At the end of episode five there are two very noticeable jumps in the picture, one as they throw down their hats and another where the credits jump backwards.
What was the cause?

At the end of episode five there are two very noticeable jumps in the picture, one as they throw down their hats and another where the credits jump backwards. What was the cause? A bit of damage sadly. Because of the crawl, the frame repair wasn't convincing, so we left the cut in. The soundtrack wasn't recorded on the off-air that was recorded in Australia so we couldn't use that either even if we could have interpolated the frames. There would have been a big hole in the film. There was also a large chunk cut out of the knighthood sketch at the beginning of ep 7. About 43 seconds was removed by a broadcaster. We think it was done to meet a duration. It's on the Seven Network off-air so it wasn't done in Australia. So all that survives of the trim to that sketch is the off-air sound from down under! Paul

The colour at the start of episode 7 is very washed out and almost totally black and white on the left side of the frame, it's very noticeable when someone stands there.
Was there ever any consideration given to hand colouring those frames?

Was there ever any consideration given to hand colouring those frames? Yes. And in fact I think another couple of passes would make a big difference. But with a project like this, a line has to be drawn to protect the budget! Paul
