Good points here all round here, but it's all case of let's wait and see. Whether we believe for many, or a few, in the final outcome our words of discussion won't be worth a hill of beans. Does that mean you won't be starting any more pointless threads?! LOL Definitely sticking to my Jodie Whittaker theory, though. She is a BBC product as is The One Show. The BBC are working alongside PM on this and they are dropping hints along the journey to the final reveal. I am certain Whittaker's comment was a timeline reference that means by the time she hands over the baton it will be time for PM to make an announcement. She is working far too closely with Chris Chibnall to not know you can't watch it all in box set format. Just my belief and words, yes, and meaningless in the end. But let's see...

Does that mean you won't be starting any more pointless threads?! Surely not. How will I get my laughs and semi-serious discussion? Sammi Carter's videos will only get me so far out of the depression box, y'know. This is all I have. Yes, Sammi Carter's videos crease me up. More of them please, Sammi. Let's have a One Show special!

I'm not saying that the omnirumour is 100% true but if it was and all 97 episodes were returned, how would the BBC even release them? How would they even anounce it? Whether just a couple episodes or upwards of 97 missing episodes were found, there are currently Blu-ray season sets of Classic Doctor Who being released and this may lead to an resolution of the missing episode situation. Eventually, Seasons 1 through 6 (plus Pertwee seasons with certain missing color episodes) will be released in some format. At that time, decisions will need to be made about what goes on these season sets for the 97 missing episodes. Animations? Telesnap recons? Skip missing episodes? Or, if we have been lucky, recovered episodes? I am hopeful that at least as these Blu-ray sets are released that we will finally get some clarity about what has been found or has not been found.

the afirmation about bfi's event is ambiguous, he said that he will do a QA in the missing believed wiped, and in the same tweet he say that he will "screening of Previously Lost TV Gems" this maybe mean that he will screen new recoveries or maybe means that he will screen other year recoveries. previusly lost tv gems means previusly-previusly, or lost but since this year not?

No idea what non-Who material or how much is to come at BFI MBW event but I get the feeling it's going to be mega proportions. And I think it will cause people to wonder, if he's found this much non-Who then... Also PM has the ability and contacts to find extremely rare material, as The One Show testified. Logically, if he can find the only one-off copy of Basil Brush and The Kinks then it stands to reason he can find TP 4 or POTD 1.

I applaud Ed's optimism, we should not shoot down positive vibes - let's face it, we are all gagging for the oxygen of hope - non-WHO recoveries are to be welcomed, at least stones are being lifted - we must keep the candle burning. as long as you keep it well away from the film...

Also PM has the ability and contacts to find extremely rare material, as The One Show testified. Logically, if he can find the only one-off copy of Basil Brush and The Kinks then it stands to reason he can find TP 4 or POTD 1. It does not stand to reason. There is once again no logic behind what you are saying.

PM said on The One Show that the Basil Brush film is the only one existing copy. As far as I am aware there is one copy of TP 4 and POD 1 possibly still out there. So the odds of coming across them are about the same as finding Basil Brush somewhere in Sierra Leone.

So the odds of coming across them are about the same as finding Basil Brush somewhere in Sierra Leone. If an episode is missing and then you find 1 copy, then that is the only existing copy. That proves nothing else. You're trying to suggest that gives TP4 and POD1 the same odds just because the paper trail is inconclusive of the whereabouts of 1 print of each. You're talking about 2 different things and trying to make one equal another. Furthermore, a bigger problem for your 'logic' here is that is isn't simply a numbers game. There are no hard rules. You seem to be trying to make them up all the time and it's getting silly now. None of what you're trying to formulate makes any sense.

I didn't think there were any missing color Pertwee episodes any more? They've all been colourized in various ways and released on DVD. There's no guarantee that the whole of the classic series will be released as season box-sets,containing recovered episodes or not.The BBC can pull the plug on the whole enterprise any time they wish.Plus I don't like the new font on the episode production notes!

Addendum: I should have gone further. How much would BBC have recovered without Doctor Who fans who are willing to *risk* *their* *lives* to track down missing episodes? We who gets to enjoy recoveries owe PM, PV, et al. a huge debt of thanks -- regardless of the recovery.

The comparison with TP4 is inapt. Statistics, as far as they go, do suggest that there's a lot of missing non-Who out there, but this has no bearing on the chance of find more Who.

There's plenty of missing Basil Brushes out there but PM said this was the one and only copy he found. The same can be applied to Doctor Who, except of course Marco Polo, of which several copies were made.

Ed, I really must ask you something. I'm not interested in why episode hunting should have the probability of a dice roll or why you think that only Marco Polo was copied more than once; I'm not even going to ask you how you explain that Enemy of the world #3 was found twice. I'm just curious about...
What is an "embarrassment of riches"? I have no idea what that even means!
