Phil Morris hasn't been on The One Show since 2013, and suddenly - when we least expect it - he's back with a recovered episode of Morecambe and Wise from Sierra Leone, plus news of other finds such as Steptoe and Son, and visits to Hong Kong and Singapore! Furthermore, the BBC are telling us more missing episodes are to be announced, and PM has handed in missing material to the BFI for this years' MBW event! Friends, are we almost there? PM told us the next reveals would be non-Who. What more proof do we need than tonight? A television appearance (no less) surely heralds the beginning of something good; an embarrassment of recovered riches - not only of other lost shows but, dare I say it, announcements in the future of more Doctor Who finds?? And let's not forget Jodie Whitakker's recent quote and bear in mind it might not be pure coincidence that PM has been tweeting a lot about her as Doctor Who of late! The lid is about to burst off the pressure cooker, for sure... Let's all enjoy a champagne weekend!

What the hell, I'll stick my neck out and say 'Yes'.

A gentle reminder that any further Who recoveries from PM (or indeed anyone else) are not necessarily proof for any claptrap theories. Recoveries are good. Claptrap theories are bad. Remember, kids.

I tend to take a wait and see approach to avoid any disappointment. For some reason though, I just don't think there are many Dr Who episodes out there to find - I think most are gone, so aren't there to be recovered. I'd be extremely pleased to be proved wrong though!
Either way, its great to see the recent announcements that missing stuff has been returned, it will make a lot of people very happy.

Any missing material recovered is cause for celebration.
I'm honestly not expecting anything, but it stirs a bit of cautious optimism.
Crossing fingers, but won't uncorked the champagne.

I applaud Ed's optimism, we should not shoot down positive vibes - let's face it, we are all gagging for the oxygen of hope - non-WHO recoveries are to be welcomed, at least stones are being lifted - we must keep the candle burning.

Optimism is great, but we must remember to temper expectations and approach this thoughtfully and logically. Getting into a frenzy over nothing substantive can lead to major disappointment. That itself should be shot down, but not the optimism that drives it.

I am extremely sceptical about this kind of thing, usually - because usually, the people doing the speculating are doing so on non-existent evidence. Now, Philip Morris' announcement tonight does nothing to change that absence of evidence where DW recoveries are concerned. But given that it is Mr. Morris - a proven bagger of DW MEs - doing the announcing, I am cautiously optimistic that some more DWs may have been found, as he has led people to believe all along by nods and winks. The most obvious candidate is, I suppose, WoF 3.
'An embarrassment of riches', Omnirumour-style? That I doubt. The nature of what was announced tonight points to orphan episodes if anything. The absolute most I am hoping for is that the old 'MEW' rumour was true, and the third serial found was in fact 'Marco Polo', held back in 2013 due to poor state of preservation or some such reason. But there's many a slap twixt cup and lap, as someone once said...

We just to have to wait and see. Keep in mind Dr. Who is not the only series the BBC sold abroad. So I am not surprised that Phil has found episode's of other series.
Its also possible that duplicates of things already held in the archives were found as well.
Still it does inspire hope knowing that there are still things out there to be found even if there not Dr. Who

If Marco Polo or indeed any other serial was held back, it certainly wasn't for quality reasons. He's mentioned in an interview that the only bad quality copy of Doctor Who he's found so far was a duplicate Pertwee episode. It's entirely possible he's not found anything that is missing from the archives and it really is just a bunch of Pertwee and Baker duplicates, but quite frankly if that little bit of information on the supply chains is all he gets from the rest of his finds (utterly ignoring all the non-Who material he is finding), I'm still going to be happy.

He has only admitted ambassadors of death part 2 IIRC.... and that was many years ago. He might have found other vinegar mush since...and, likely, he has not told us everything he knows or has found. Someday, I hope the veil is lifted and he tells all. A book or documentary might not sell big, but I'd bet DW fandom would eat it up.

Not that I'm trying to add credence to the MP recovery speculation, but bear in mind that Phil has told white lies in order to protect his ongoing operation. For example, his original version of events was that WOF3 was simply never there ... until his revelation in 2015.

I reckon that his search is over now as he specifically said that he wouldn't be showing anything until his search was complete. The fact that he's now showing his non-who recoveries is great as it means that we should probably be getting another who anouncement sometime next year!

Perhaps the main body of the search (going round the archives manually) but it certainly sounds like he's still following leads at the moment and is still actively searching for material. Alternatively, his previous comments could apply only to Doctor Who, given how little he can trust particular fans.
