Interesting: Matthew Purchase @thecyberdevil Philip Morris has said on the Missing Believed Wiped FB group that he has found a load of monochrome The Goodies episodes on 16mm including the "Kitten Kong" for which only an edited version currently exists. He needs to check the print before confirming it's the original edit. 3:42 AM - 16 Oct 2018 He actually said ... > Hi Martin I have some Goodies episodes on 16mm including this particular one kitten kong I need to check which version I have . ... which is not a thing like the claim on Twitter. And no, I don't care to see my conversation turned into a rumour, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Steve Roberts on GB:
We're hoping to announce the other titles that Phil returned a couple of weeks ago sometime next week, via the official BBC Archive Facebook and Twitter feeds. Please don't work yourselves up thinking there will be any Doctor Who, there isn't. It's all comedy shows.

Well, unless more were found ( & indeed maybe they have been & I've somehow missed it ) since the DVD boxset was issued quite a few years back, or my memory is particularly bad I seem to recall that from & including series 2 most of the monochrome ones were in pretty poor condition indeed ( though series 1 is in excellent condition ) - I assumed this was because they were mainly sourced from the poor quality domestic recordings made by one of the writers. You're ( Simon Ashby ) saying only one was. If so, those surviving film prints must have been in a bad condition when located. Can't comment on the condition of the episodes, but I am sure that only the 1 b/w episode existed as a home recording. That said, PM found one telerecording so it's possible he found others in better condition too, but he says nothing to that effect. We'll see! Well it would be an outstanding stroke of luck if he only found 1 Steptoe recording and it just happened to be the only 1 which was only available from domestic tape.

Not sure there's any logic behind that (I mean, how do we calculate luck?!). But in any case, certainly very lucky regardless!

Looking at the episodes on the Goodies DVD there are a few that need working on
Series 1 Ep 4 Caught In the Act is in B/W but seems to have lots of chroma dots Series 2 Ep 2 Commonwealth Games B/W , hopefully has some chroma dots, not as obvious as in S1 Ep4 Series 2 Ep 7 Kitten Kong [Hopefully B/W with chroma dots] Series 2 Ep 8 Come Dancing [weak colour over B/w] hopefully a better copy or chroma dots
So if the original Kitten Kong is back it would nice to have the other 3 episodes restored, so the Goodies is complete in Colour again

There's another little thing tucked away in that thread: according to Phil, the Morecambe & Wise episodes were sent direct to Sierra Leone from London, rather than bicycled from Singapore. That rings a little bell somewhere in my head: I'm unsure whether it's significant or not, but it feels interesting.

Yes, he also says In addition to your above comment, there was no other station in Sierra Leone, right? So if the two statements are consistent, he's definitely referring to a station in the UK as the source they were sent from? Would this type of thing normally be sent by a station for audition? Were audition prints regularly received by African stations, or was it more common for somewhere like Australia?
