genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/24b7f3a144aa456fb97226dc72a41eacDon't suppose anyone knows of a transcription disc or other (legal) copy of this? (The BBC don't. It's a totally obscure radio drama based on a play. Continuation of Pride and Prejudice. For some bizarre reason it was televised on the continent one year later, which makes little sense.)

That just shows how rare the item is. I thought the same, only it was 5th link for me. If the Beeb don't have it then you'd have to hope it turns on a reel found at a junk shop or car boot sale. And while things do turn up, revealing that people did indeed tape obscure things, the chance of this particular obscure thing turning up must be extremely slim.

Genome gives the Radio Times note "Cedric Wallis writes on page 4" about the series. Can anyone quote the text?

Couldn't there have been a transcription disc? Maybe - try the RadioFans mailing list. Or the Diversity folk at Sutton Elms.

You are expecting a Trans Disc from 1950s? Maybe an acetate - but there have been precious few of these on the collectors' market.

Well, to take your question literally, I am not expecting anything (not even the Spanish inquisition). I always knew the chances were next to nothing. I did make a last ditch attempt to contact the writer, or his living relatives. The strange thing about this is that the same play was actually televised in the Netherlands shortly afterwards, which makes very little sense - it's a continuation of Pride & Prejudice, which wasn't especially well known there at all! (Whereas the BBC had just screened one of its now-lost TV versions (with Peter Cushing).)

Of course the Jane Austen Society would have the definitive answer as to any extant recordings!!!

Oh the book (or to be precise it was written as a play) can be found. Either on Amazon ($$$) or via a library. (I'd have to send for it especially with interlibrary loan, though, but it is possible.)
I asked that society in the past if they have any off air recordings, at the time I meant TV, but they were not that helpful. And they might not care that much for derivatives. None of the Sherlock Holmes societies managed to save even one missing Cushing episode either.
