Hi all
Well, probably like many of you, I've been listening to the DAB pop up station "Radio 1 Vintage" - bringing back a lot of memories of when Radio used to be....well....better than it is today!
I just really wanted to ask any of you more knowledgeable people:- Have there been any archival surprises broadcast on here so far? I know a lot of material is from the 80's/90's - but not having a clue about the archival status of Radio 1 (or indeed any radio station for that matter!) just wondered if the repeated archival material broadcast so far is generally what is known to exist?

Interesting points Paul.
I have been working my way through various shows on Radio 1 Vintage, via the i-player.
Is BBC Radio archiving similar to TV, i.e. prior to late 1970s are shows less likely to survive?

Hi Paul:
I haven't visited this forum for about 6 months, hence my very late reply.
I was approached by one of the Radio 1 Vintage producers for some chart audio they could use for their Chart Show special (which I thought could have been a lot better), some of which they used and some they didn't.
I have always known the Beeb hardly have any chart audio but I discovered they had no recording of Elton John getting to number 1 in 1997 with Candle In The Wind nor the 25 Years of the Chart Show Documentary broadcast in 1992 (they do know thanks to me). I understand a lot of the audio used was supplied by various people as they have a lot of gaps missing.

I wonder if I should ask the BBC if they are interested in my chart tapes with links.

I doubt they would Richard, but as a long time chart archivist, I would certainly be interested!

It's at times like this I get annoyed that my landlady threw out all my chart tapes in 1998, losing my many recordings of complete shows from 1990-94.
I recorded them complete specifically because I knew it was unlikely the BBC would keep them long-term.
I then moved onto VHS Hi-Fi in '95 and I still have many from then until '97 but then I lost interest (and lost heart).
