Hmm, I'll give the Beeb the benefit of the doubt on this one though a revised version of Power of the Daleks' seems a very dubious project to me. Indeed, having earnestly forked out for proceeding animations such as 'Macra' et al can I now expect that those too will be 'upgraded' in the future? I hope not as all I ever hear about these releases are the punishing time and budgetary constraints placed upon the animators....yet suddenly 'Power' has been gifted further resources to arguably make it what it should've been in the first place?! Pre-ordered then, albeit begrudgingly.

I noticed that they list a 1953 episode of Robin Hood starring Patrick Troughton as Robin. That’s exciting, but I thought those episodes were lost. According to Wikipedia, all that exists is a 16 minute clip of one episode, but the list of DVD extras says episode, not excerpts from an episode. Has a whole episode recently been found? As far as I know, Episode 2 only survives from Robin Hood.

What is this Highlanders? A new animation or recon? Yes, I wondered about that - either bits of surviving footage (although from the Wikipedia site (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who_missing_episodes), it looks like that is just 13 seconds....) or maybe a trailer for them animating that story next like you say? That would be great as I have wanted to see that one with Jamie's introduction! Fingers crossed....

According to the listing The Highlanders is one of the extra features that were on the previous edition; so unless that's an error it won't be anything new. This is made particularly clear if you look at the recent Radio Times report on the new special edition. I've got the previous edition on standard blu ray but can't remember off-hand a Highlanders extra, even though I always watch all the extras except maybe the ones to do with the animation - but my memory's not always all that great so presumably The Highlanders extra is on there.

This is odd. While I believe Power Animation does need some improvements... (I consider Macra and Faceless better) ....i would’ve hoped for something else the budget be allocated to.
I would’ve only expected this if we had gotten an episode of Power back. But we aren’t?
Weird.

While not having seen it, I'm happy to get the new lc recon with cgi.
Also if there are reasons to justify it, (like randolph recordings or much higher animation, )I'm willing to give it a try.
It takes a significant argument to get the bbc to make a new release after they just released a few years ago so im sensing there is a legitimate reason.
Otherwise, why not do evil of the daleks or anotherstory?
Another argument could be that they are running out of stories that are easily animated and want to grab all the low hanging fruit

What got forgotten was to remove the reference to The Highlanders in the press release.

Is it 16 minutes? I've even heard there was only 8 minutes or 6 minutes... Mind you, many people thought the 70's puppet series of Rupert was largely lost, but Network have just put every episode out on DVD. Now either that was a mismanaged archive, or they weren't looking hard enough, but after hearing that this episode is gonna be on the DVD, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the whole half hour episode. As for me, I'm more inclined to wonder what they mean by featuring "The Highlanders" among the features. Is it a recon, or a trailer to an upcoming project, or an excerpt from a cancelled project? I heard that, before they did Macra, they were strongly debating Highlanders, so I have to wonder if this isn't a recon, it's either a trailer to a new project, or it's test work from that proposal before they went with Macra. I guess we'll know more when the DVD comes out. But at least we can all be certain that it's not a recovered episode... But WHAT a way to reveal it if it was, lol.

As a Doctor Who fan,any merchandise relating to it makes me salivate, just as it has done since the 1970s when I was a nipper.I love the animations and the fact that an existing animated story is being upgraded is wierd and wonderful...a strange concept which is thoroughly in keeping with the Coronavirus pandemic that we are going through now-something which we will have to get used to. But would Leonardo really go back and touch up The Mona Lisa years after it was framed and exhibited..?

I forgot about the Randolph Tapes. I hope they come into play if better than the previous audio used.
Is there anything you could provide Paul on the front?

As mentioned above it was pulled from the final product but accidently left in the press release.

Surely the animation of a missing serial is just a prop on which to hang the audio soundtrack,so why go to the bother of trying to re-create what is already a re-creation? Seems a bit pointless really. And I've always thought that Power's narrative was so good and the existing soundtrack so clear,it doesn't even need a visual element! However, what I really can't stand are those bloated slabs of speckled boxset vinyl that the BBC are releasing. Those are truly redundant and a cynical attempt to get fans to part with their cash for what is sheer product. And how can you enjoy listening to a continuous soundtrack when you have to keep getting up and turn the LP over every half an hour?😠
