The search will always go as I have said above, but the Omi rumor is dead and buried. If it were true we would have had hundreds of hours worth of BBC and ITV programs returned along side Dr. Who not just Dr. Who. . . .

Well for those of us who were teenagers in 1981, I can tell you the search as gone on for DECADES and if you look at it from the point of view of those of us who were fans when many of the currently existing episodes were thought lost for ever you will see that the search has taken time
Found since I was 17 years old in 1981 and a fan for over 6 years at that time
The French Revolution 1,2,3 & 6 The Crusades 1 The Time Meddler The Daleks Master Plan 2,5 & 10 The War Machines The Faceless Ones 3 The Evil of the Daleks 2 The Tomb of the Cybermen The Abominable Snowman 2 The Ice Warriors 1,4,5 & 6 The Enemy of the World The Web of Fear 2,4,5 & 6 The Wheel in Space 6 Invasion (of the Dinosuars) 1
Inferno 525 NTSC Colour The Claws of Axos 525 NTSC color Colony in Space 525 NTSC color Curse of Peladon 525 NTSC color The Sea Devils 4, 5 & 6 525 NTSC color The Time Monster 525 NTSC color
Recolourized
The Silurians The Ambassadors of Death 2,3,4,5,6 & 7 Terror of the Autons The Mind of Evil The Daemons 1,2,3 & 5 Planet of the Daleks 3 The Mutants 4 & 5 525 NTSC color
plus the audio recordings and tele snap recovies in the 1990's
So since 1981 when I was 17 we have come a long way.

I was 15 in 1981, and have also followed the slow recovery of missing episodes over these many years.
However, a big turning point was the Africa Search that was officially started off on this forum on August 2, 2007 and that soon became a global search.
We have yet to hear the results of that search.
One way or another, when we receive the final accounting, we will get some clarity about what missing episodes survived and which are probably (with about 90% certainty it was estimated) are gone forever.
Personally, I'm optimistic. Before 2007, the missing episode searches were rather passive. T.I.E.A has gone out into the world and done a boots-on-the-ground search.

You have to keep in mind that in 1981 , the troughtons were only 12-14 years old.
I'm grateful for the 80s recoveries and for those who encouraged the bbc to preserve the low hanging fruit, but I still feel if they did a phil Morris level search then, we would have alot more today

and I forgot to mention on my list above. . .
The Celestial Toymaker 4
PAL 625 Color Frontier in Space 1,2,3,5 & 6
But your right had they done a thorough search back in the 80's and early 90's we might have had more. Look at what a gold mine Nigeria has been over all
The Web Planet (alternate ending) The Time Meddler The War Machines The Enemy of the World The Web of Fear (minus #3)
That is a lot of complete 1960's story's from a small remote African Country. The next biggest haul would be of color video tapes from the United States and Canada that were distributed originally by Time Life Films in the early 1970's

I had forgotten Underwater Menace 2 and Galaxy Four 4 1. But my point remains valid. Nigeria and the USA and Canada are the overall source of big returns, Nigeria for 60's episodes and the USA / Canada for the NTSC Jon Pertwee episode's.
Had the BBC had the resources that have been spent searching the last few years back in the 80's who knows what might have been found

If the search was done in the 80s, its, possible snowman and wheel would have been recovered. Also if anything was in Sierra Leone.
At this point, unless Phil finds something again, I thinkb we are reaching the bottom of the barrel. Hopefully there are a few more gems in private hands as well as the return of Web 3.

I did wonder if some colour Pertwee episodes might have been found in the 1980s.

In the early1980s, when they showed the pertwees in USA, many from his first two seasons were black and white but all existed.
By the early 80s, some were recovered from Canada but were in ntsc format which was fine for us, but had little use in the UK. Also we had the umatic tapes in existence, but they were not broadcast quality.
At that time of broadcast, all episodes were shown but for stories like planet of daleks and invasion of dinosaurs, they edited out the one remaining bw episode.
Most of the pert wee color advances occurred through recreation primarily using Chroma dots and Ian's Umatic tapes combining the color with the bw film prints.
While it's not as perfect as original color, we've come a long way

Those color Jon Pertwee tapes were the ones sent to Time Life Films when they made a distribution deal with BBC-TV Enterprises in 1972, what was found were copies that had been sent out to TV Stations in the USA and Canada that had not been returned to the distributor or wiped by the individual station at the time the stations were contacted.
Pertwee color is not perfect but between RSC, and the off air Betamax recordings made in the USA in the late 1970's we have sure come a long way.
