Bowie. None greater - songwriter, performer, musician, actor, cultural influence. A giant. A legend. What a hole he will leave. But what a legacy. Thank you David for all of it. You Laughing Gnome, you

Devastated! just on the cusp of making his comeback I suspect the new album was always going to be a swansong, not a relaunch...

A number of truly great TOTP moments. Let's not forget it's thanks to this forum and it's members that we now have the missing JEAN GENIE clip! I'm sure David must have been pleased to see it recovered after 40 years. Very sad that we've lost another musical genius...

I'm very sad he's gone, I didn't know he was unwell
tho' I can't agree the "none greater" blurb above (thats a bit OTT in my opinion) he was a massive influence on seventies onwards music fans of course, I liked his 'Man Who Sold The World' to 'Low' seventies musical period but his later stuff did nothing for me at all
His acting was always interesting and he never rested on his laurels, even if his various pursuits were not always to the taste of all...
another iconic figure leaves us...

It would be very fitting if TOTP 1969 Space Oddity turned up.

It's amazing that 'Starman' survived considering how the 1972 editions of TOTP were decimated. JULY 1972: 6-7-72: Presenter: Tony Blackburn (Wiped) (16) THE WHO – Join Together (crowd dancing) (and charts) (NEW) LULU – Even If I Could Change (29) DAVID BOWIE – Starman * (4) THE SWEET – Little Willy (26) FREDERICK KNIGHT – I’ve Been Lonely For So Long (danced to by Pan’s People) (19) LOVE UNLIMITED – Walkin’ In The Rain With The One I Love (video) (6) THE NEW SEEKERS – Circles ® (13) DR. HOOK & THE MEDICINE SHOW – Sylvia’s Mother (video) (2) GARY GLITTER – Rock And Roll (Part 2) (1) DONNY OSMOND – Puppy Love (video) (30) THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY starring SHIRLEY JONES feat. DAVID CASSIDY – Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (crowd dancing) (and credits) * although this show is wiped, this performance still existsz6.invisionfree.com/popscene/index.php?showtopic=8544

It's amazing that 'Starman' survived considering how the 1972 editions of TOTP were decimated. Yes, luckily the vandals missed that one. I saw it on broadcast (just a week or two before my 14th birthday), and it appears to be one of those iconic events which everybody claims to have witnessed. Even celebrities on tv reminiscence programmes who were barely out of the womb at the time.....

It also was used in an TOTP intro sequence they used a few months later.
