That's what I read on page 9 of today's Daily Mirror. After my heart stopped racing and I refocused my eyes I reread 'Lost Dad's Army classic found after 47 years'. Feeling slightly deflated I read the article. Now I felt proper cheated. The episode hasn't been 'found' but reconstructed using the audio soundtrack and ANIMATION! What?! Up until now I thought the BBC only did this for a few missing episodes of Doctor Who. I had also been led to believe there was no money for further Who animations. And besides it wasn't economically viable. So what is going on here? Presumably the last two missing Dad's Army episodes will also be animated? (but no more Who) Funny old world ain't it,?

If that is what the title of the article said claiming that a lost episode had been found, it is misleading. Making an animation is not finding an episode. It is a substitute for an episode.
It is disappointing that lost Doctor Who is not being animated anymore. But the Omni-disaster is partially responsible for that. Taking 2/e out of the DVD releases didn't help, either. When there are news reports saying most of the Hartnell and Troughton episodes have been found, that tends to get the fans' hopes up for a major letdown later. The Underwater Menace is an example of the original plan being blown out of the water and delivering far less than what was hoped for.

Presumably the last two missing Dad's Army episodes will also be animated? Out of the three missing episodes, only one audio television soundtrack survives, so this will probably be it. And of course, the Dad's Army movie is just about to hit the cinemas and the repeats of the programme are a very big hit with television audiences, so it could be of interest to some people.

That change from 2|entertain didn't actually have anything to do with it. 2|entertain was a division of BBCWW anyway It just become more specialised in 2012 (releasing non-BBC material) so it was simply no longer the line that produced the Doctor Who titles anymore.

DA was also one of the few shows to get an episode recolourised.
Both things cost an arm and a leg and they'll only do it for the most popular shows.

Time to move this one to the not-Doctor-Who-thread!

I thought the recoloured episode of DA was the one where chroma dot recovery was discovered? So essentially without that episode a lot of the DW colourisations wouldn't have been so cost effective? Or are my memory circuits scrambled again?

Or are my memory circuits scrambled again? Could be. Even so, what I mean is that there are lots of shows that could be recolourised or audio-only that could be animated but in reality they only do that for the very most popular shows. Probably a matter of money, not sure if I can blame them.

I took this as a good thing. If they can animate DAD'S ARMY they can try to do DOCTOR WHO again, since all of the episodes have audios.

We can petition more DOCTOR WHO to be animated until more episodes are found.
