It could just have been blagged for imagined financial gain. Hopefully not, but if such a print still exists, it could have been stored absolutely anywhere. I am going to contradict this somewhat. If someone keeps an item around for eventual, perceived financial gain, she/he/I keep it very well guarded, protected, and insulated from any potential hazard; otherwise, it won't accumulate in value. Even though I play a couple of my collectible albums, I still keep them very well tended - and under lock and key inside my house. If I intended to resell them, I would have recorded them long ago so they would never get played. Our treatment of things that would seem perhaps meaningless to others is motivated by our personal feelings towards them, rather than a desire to profit from them. This should not be conflated with a profiteer's motivation for financial gain from what they perceive as a commodity. In the case of something that may be unique, if in the unlikely event such a thing was held by some private party, they would have a somewhat captive audience and might not be that bothered to spend their precious money on optimum storage conditions. Preventing any deterioration just might not be that much of a priority or motivation to any hypothetical holder of a print who may be motivated by selfishness and greed in the knowledge of having the likely only copy. All speculation of course. As always, I believe it when I see it. I am, in complete honesty, content to have five out of six web episodes. If episode three is bargained back into the archive, well and good, but the cup is near full already.

Does Phil Morris know for certain if the station manager was bribed? When he made his initial revelation about WOF3, that appeared to be just his strong gut feel. However, during his Xmas 2016 interview, he now seemed to know this with some certainty.

Something else I've just remembered ... when first making the WOF3 revelation, Phil also stated that there was an additional tape and that the station manager took this too. Perhaps significantly, he elected not comment on its identify or its fate.
Will be interesting to eventually discover what that was and whether the same fan/collector who snaffled WOF3 also snaffled this additional tape.

I've been reviewing PM interviews last night, cant seem to find that tid bit. Any chance you can provide a link? (Not doubting the veracity, just wanting to review it) Thankx in advance!

Here is the bit of the PM interview
"However two prints, one QQ3 Web of Fear 3 and another spare print were taken from one of my guys by a guy at the station who took the two prints to his office. This was reported to me within hours. I was not unduly concerned I knew their location."
A spare print, so must have been existing if spare.

Thank you!
Interesting. "Spare print" could mean anything, knowing PM's vague statements. A different show entirely, another DW print of extant material (most likely), a missing orphan episode (not likely but, if so, likely an installment of snowman or wheel). I hope we find out. I seemed to have missed this first time around.

But it's been known for people to have varying levels of competence, and for their relatives/heirs to have less. People also do silly things sometimes in frustration or spite. Even institutions have been known to destroy irreplaceable material.

I’m referring to the “In Conversation” Q&A session. Phil describes what happened when his TIEA employee was moving Web/Enemy for safe-keeping. “It’s only when he got to the last; there were two films. There was something else as well. I won’t mention what that is. There was something else, and he had them. The station manager said “What are you doing with those” and took the two prints off him … and took them to his office”

I am looking forward to finding out all of the details of Phil's archival investigations. Hopefully he has been penning a book giving the full story on all of it which will be published in due course. I think that will be a pre-order for me..............

Re the additional tape ... not necessarily DW of course. However, given that he instructed that it be moved for safe-keeping along with Web & Enemy and was later coy about revealing its identity, this suggests that it was of great significance.

This "spare print" is likely WOF episode 1 as that is already in the archives. I could be wrong but that would make sense.

I think it is pretty obvious it is something in addition to the 12 episodes of WOF/Enemy. Otherwise Phil would simply have said that he took WOF1 & 3 as there would have been no need to be coy. (Also note that WOF1 was returned to the BBC.)

Perhaps the duplicate print (if it is Doctor Who) is of an episode that mostly exists but is missing some footage as in The War Machines or The Time Meddler (though not the War Machines or the Time Meddler as both of those have already been recovered from Nigeria) or a print of notably superior quality to the BBC's copy.

Who knows. Maybe it was a missing episode of which he soon found another copy. This would explain why he moved it for safe-keeping, was coy about its identity and later supposedly described it as a "spare print". I guess all will be revealed ... eventually.
