George had a spectacular career as an actor in mainly films, but also as the comical rogue Arthur Daley in Minder, for which many including myself most remember him.

He is sorely missed.

If anyone else had been cast as Arthur Daley (e.g. I understand Lee Montagu was in contention), 'Minder' would have been a success, given that it was originally a vehicle for Dennis Waterman.

Though I think it would have been remembered now as a short-lived cult series, like other Euston productions e.g. 'Out', 'Fox' and 'Widows'. I think George Cole's superb depiction of Arthur Daley made 'Minder' the long-running mainstream hit that it was.

Here's a wee photo and blurb from the TV Times (Anglia) region for the Informer series episode called "It's an Unfair World, Baxter" it was t'xd in the Anglia region on the 17th August 1966 between 8pm and 8:55pm.

TV Times 18th Nov 1966 (Anglia Region) Article on George Cole appearing in the series Blackmail... for the episode entitled: "The Sound of Distant Guns"

I checked lostshows for Blackmail and it says
Out of an original total of 27 episodes, 19 episodes are missing and a further episode is incomplete.
And surprise surprise the episode "The Sound of Distant Guns" with George Cole is one of the missing ones.
