I spotted it a few days ago and informed Paul Vanezis and Rob Moss. What's MC? Nice one,Pete. It's a relief that it wasn't mentioned here! The Mausoleum Club, and I should put it in full. Any idea who's bought it?

Yes been keeping an eye on this also and similarly informed one of the mods who, as I expected, already knew about it. Well done to those in the know who chose NOT to post details of the auction here - didnt stop it going for a hefty price though!

Ronnie,do you mean that it did go for a song? I mean, was it relatively cheap?

Looks like this was sold privately. Now how do we find the owner and see if they will return it

Rob Moss told me that Kaleidoscope would be bidding for it. I don't know if they won, eBay hides bidders' names. Maybe they won, maybe not. I dare say we'll be told soon enough.
I wonder what their budget is for something like this.

Chris Perry posted earlier on the Kaleidoscope Facebook page that they were not successful.

So I'll keep the question-mark on the thread-title.

What a pity kaleidoscope were not successful in bidding for the episode. Although as said above it can sense to let the appropriate people know and not advertise it to keep bidding to a minimun - the more hardcore and affluent private collectors tend to be on the lookout on a frequent basis and would probably come across it anyway. Most collectors I know who are looking for specific things tend to check around a few times a week and set up alerts etc so they don't miss anything that comes up in there sphere of interest. I was wondering if an episode of something comes up for sale in future if there could be a way of chipping in/donating to kaleidoscope to bolster funds to win the auction. Though funds would be increased it would have to be judged against the pitfalls of wider awareness and those who donated would perhaps get a'thanks to' mention on any dvd release etc when and if that happened. I couldn't and wouldn't have bid on this particular item to the amount it went for but would have been happy to throw a small amount in the pot to help kaleidoscope win it and accept I had no right to a copy etc; and if enough other people interested in it did the same the funds could possibly be increased quite a bit. Possibly a tricky notion legally and practically to be honest but the thought did cross my mind.

A sad turn of events; from Chris Perry (via social media):-
""http://www.ebay.co.uk/…/SOFTLY-SOFTLY-BBC-TV-…/141709334738…
How sad that someone should buy it and then try to flog it back to us collectors at such an exorbitant price. Suffice to say Kaleidoscope will not be buying it at that price. I would recommend everyone to boycott it so it has to be listed at a lesser price.""
My twopence - if you buy a film/tape, then please, please donate a copy to an archive/broadcaster! This action benefits noone.
