William: Can you remember what title this documentary went out under? I've just scouted through the Radio 4 "Listen again" feature, but can't find it there. Sounds fascinating!

Off screen still and writen notes - it was a monitoring service.
"and did this procedure continue into the cold war?"
? I don't undestand the connection between the Eiffel Tower station and the Cold War.
"does the KGB have recordings of british TV? "
? ditto

On a related note, most German TV was "transmitted" using intermediate film technology, and much of that films has survived. Channel 4's Secret History did a programme on the subject a year or so back.

" ? ditto were the uk usa ussr etc recording each others programs? obviously that would be secret but the psychological departments of the secret services would find such data useful and spies could use tv to familiarise themselves with the relevant culture etc etc the stills would be interesting to see is there a book or web site with some of these on or are they all still classified?
