Don't wish to be a party pooper but this audio was around in 2 sources, one not bad but incomplete and one complete but poorer sound. I think the jan 18 67 is in circulation too. Any idea what the sound quality and completeness is like on this one Ray ?

Bob Pratt At The BBC - looks like the guy saved enough stuff for a series. He deserves great credit so why not give him and his archive skills a show with an explanation at the beginning.

I take all this in but that performance of Voodoo Chile is incendiary and very different from the record. Those guys are on fire and did anyone in the audience understand what Noel's shirt was all about ! The BBC would have gone mental if they knew. Hey Joe/SOYL is just not very good but agreed, his grin when he sorts his E string out is priceless. As for Lulu singing with them - could have been interesting - she's got a voice and Dusty held her own with the Experience - wish all of that had survived.

How about a "Destroyed At The BBC" highlighting all the fabulous stuff that was de-magnetised ? They could have a whole half hour on Johnny Kidd and The Pirates. OK, probably more like 10 minutes. More realistically, how about a proper Hendrix one with all the clips we know exist from TOTP etc. but seem to have surfaced only on bootleg/official Hendrix dvd and am I the only one who thinks that the Lulu Sunshine Of Your Love is crap and the Voodoo Chile is one of the most brilliant live TV performances known to humanity ? Ditto the Kinks Beat Room where Got Love If You Want It beyond smokes and You Really Got Me is wasted by a poor sound balance but always gets the nod because the song's more famous and the performance is shorter ? How's about they show The Kinks Julie Felix (?) thing with Pete Quaife still in the band and in colour. How that didn't end up on the Kinks BBC set is swearingly stupid. How about they ask Dave Clark if they can show a bunch of Ready Steady Go which he has preserved for future generations by not letting anyone see it for 30 years. Thanks Dave. Maybe they could offer to state how important the DC5 were to classical music and gay rights in exchange for a reduced fee. Personally, I think they should just put up their entire pop holdings for pay download and give up making shows with stupid voiceovers and rolling subtitles. More importantly we also need a 4k scan colourised version of Syd's Pink Floyd on Look Of The Week.

Doesn't sound very imaginative or exciting. I assume See Emily Play is being used as shelf lining. I'm not sure how tricky it would be to make something usable out of it or (shock, gasp) even colourise it like the Beatles did with All You Need Is Love. Actually i'd be up for a colourised Look Of The Week too....come on BBC, colour me pop for me.

The key episode to find is the Johnny Kidd and The Pirates one. Not sure which episode they were on but they did a long-ish and impressive live set according to those who saw it. Guests from this show weren't always reported in NME etc.. and the couple of dates i've seen suggested for JK are wrong. It might be that that episode went out live or that the bits that have surfaced above were recordings for insert. The format appears to have been a live band and some/a report. I did email the chap who was in charge of the Border archive (at Cumbria Uni??) a few times a while back but had no response. If anyone knows which date JK appeared on i'd be grateful to know as I'm working on a JK project for next year hopefully.

3 versions of Hello Goodbye ? Blimey that's a bit unfortunate. I believe John described that one as "some tihs". Oh well. Thanks for finally doing something that's not a ballpoint pen or coffee cup Apple. Let's hope the Live project is even better.

Shelley - this has been known about for a while. The specially-shot Beatles appearance was made for TOTP and excerpts - the ones you see - used in the Doctor Who episode 'the Chase'; and that's all we have left. Tantalising, eh. The uploader going on about 'missing Beatles TOTP performances found in Africa', well, I'd like to know about that! Until proven take that bit with a pinch of salt. AFAIK the Africa rumour sprung up at the same time as the Dr Who omnirumour. Saw it on a few Beatle sites at the same time people were going crazy about the recently recovered 100 Dr Who episodes ! The story that a big haul of tapes had been found led to speculation that it may include missing Beatles performances. I think it was even in a newspaper ? Of course it's entirely possible that a haul of tapes might feature the Fab 4. It's also possible that said haul contained a misfiled copy of the directors cut of Magnificent Ambersons or anything else you'd like. File under Paul is dead.

I've got one of the Cliff discs. I have some notes regarding Cliff and The Shads appearances but i'm afraid you'll have to be patient.

Which Kinks vid was blocked ? Was it the usual Sunny Afternoon ? I can't see them on his Youtube channel at all. Some great uploads from the director. I hope he has some more. There's still plenty of stuff out there to be found !

I'm sure it must be there or Carlisle or somewhere in that general region. Unfortunately, Kidd's performances are very under-reported in the music press and he tended to be booked on one night stands rather than as part of tours in comparison to Fury, Cliff, Wilde etc... Keith Hunt's book (while excellent) is somewhat in need of fact/date checking though i hasten to add that that wasn't as easy at the time the book was written. He did a tremendous job. I think it's gonna be a long haul read through local papers on and around the dates in question to make a suitable guesstimate. Tony Rees Pop/TV Diaries have a date of 31 Dec 1962 for this show but as my independent research and your contribution note there was no show that day. Of course it could have been recorded that day Hmmmm. Footage of the Mick Green line-up would be the dream (as long as it's not Always and Ever but at this stage i'd take anything). Of course episodes of Wham! (1960) gratefully accepted too. thanks Ray.

Thanks Ray. I want to know which episode Johnny Kidd and The Pirates appeared on. Unless i missed it, no mention in NME,Disc,Record Mirror or Melody Maker. As there were a few clips up at the Border website i wanted to ask if they thought they might have more episodes as yet uncatalogued and if they had any information about Kidd's appearance. I've been researching Kidd for a long time ("found" that footage a year or so ago) but i haven't given up hope of some more Kidd film being out there. Legend has it that the band performed several numbers live on one episode possibly shortly after the release of the Shot Of Rhythm and Blues/I Can Tell single but i have to admit that much of the info in books/magazines etc. has turned out to be provably inaccurate. I'm chasing this one up for the nth time just in case. By the way, i don't have access to my notes but somewhere i do have a (very) partial list for Beat In The Border. Can't access it right now but i think the series did continue in 1964 (but i could be wrong !).

Wasn't sure about bringing back a 3 year old thread so... Anybody here know what the status of the Border TV Archive is ? They seem to have a dedicated website (separate from ITNsource) but it's basically a dead end. I've registered but the capcha does not work for sending email enquiries or clip purchases and i've been going round in circles. This appears to be a longstanding problem. I emailed a few times a year or two ago and got no response. Anyone know more than i do on this subject ? I'm trying to find out about a particular Beat In The Border episode. Is there an archivist who can be contacted ?
