In the 1960s TV screens were so small and at such a distance that the extra smoothness of 50i would barely have been apparent in many cases. As someone who was a child in the 60s and saw (almost ...) every Dr Who episode from the very beginning, I disagree 100% with that statement! I can remember, at around 5/6 years old, asking my parents why some bits of Dr Who looked 'clearer' (the studio shots) than other bits (the film inserts) and it taking some time to get to the bottom of it. CRT screens were SO superior to modern LCD/LED/PLASMA screens in the crispness and quality of the image that they produced, especially in B&W, that the difference between what we would now call 50i and 25p was VERY noticeable : current HD TVs only just give the same level of 'sharpness' as 1960s 405 line sets did in SD.

I doubt that many of those digital satellite broadcasts from the 1960s are still hanging around these days ; even the ones captured forever by the Tardis ...

I have thought that ever since I got my TV in 2013 which, as you say, had it switched on by default ; took me several days to find out which setting it was and get it switched off!

Also the picture bills him as 'John', but I remember him on This Is Your Life 'revealing' that WAS his name originally and the 'h' was dropped, initially, by mistake.

The only episode I remember of Lollipop was the choc-a-holic one. I've seen worse (most sitcoms made this century, for instance)

The excellent 'S-M-S' channel has deleted their videos too. Bummer : the owner of that channel contacted me after I had posted some audio-only 'missing' TOTP performances, informing me that he/she had copies of most of them on video, and directing me towards his/her channel.

Finally got round to watching the Bowie documentary with the highest expectations of enjoying all the rare footage ... but had to abandon it after about 5 minutes before I got to anything I hadn't seen, because it was such a poorly produced programme : another 'arty farty' production of lightning fast cuts from one thing to another and disembodied voices floating over the screen , this time accompanied by the words themselves as intrusive sub-titles, without any opportunity to absorb the content of what was being shown ; appalling. Whoever made it needs to get his / her head out of their bottom and consider presenting material such as this in a way that does it some honour.

One missing show from 1976 is the one where "No6" Jingle is played during Elton Johns Pinball Wizard after its "No7" at the start, and a "Ha Ha" from Tom, i had the tape once, its usefull because it shows the delay Between the Number Jingles if they dont exist as later they changed to a new set of Jam Jingles.] My 1976 cassette recording of Pinball Wizard features exactly that 'play' i.e. has the incorrect jingle / Tom Browne's voice over the beginning

Indeed : here's some brief audio from a 'lost' TOTP from 3rd January 1974, of the DLT link following Slade's #1 single at that time. Attachments:740103-dlt.mp3 (773.55 KB)

I thought the PVL man's wife destroyed all of the tapes bar a couple when he died? That was certainly the story posted on here at the time.

Thank you James, the webpage has now been updated to include the 27.11.1986 episode, wouldn't want to miss Des O'Connor and Roger Whittaker. That is indeed the best song on that edition, with all of the rest being utterly missable, except for possibly Genesis.

A lot of late 60s/70s comedies haven't dated well...
To clarify, I don't have a problem with Morecambe and Wise (I've always liked them a lot), I'm just disappointed that the rediscovered episodes don't have more exciting musical guests.
Whereas Ronnie Carroll always said wonderful things about you ...

Bad luck, sir. Having worked in I.T. from 1980 till 2004, on many different platforms, I've always been aware that any form of media can get lost / corrupted, so my own personal 'archive' of old TV shows, converted in a similar method to the above (I'm guessing) is backed up on to another mega-drive, just in case ; that said, as someone else pointed out to me, both drives are in my house so if it burns down I lose them both! (I also have 3rd copies of some of them on my laptop, but I'd need to make sure I saved that first, rather than the wife ...)

As they always stated at that time, the BBC didn't actually 'ban' any record, but just restricted its usage on radio / TV : I think "Father Christmas" was therefore subject to this 'restricted air-play' policy which meant it would not be featured on TOTP or the Top 20 show. To date, I've still never heard it played on the BBC as part of their Christmas hits etc that do the rounds on Suffolk.
