The Peter Thomas Sound Orchestra would have been an interesting choice. Here's his theme for Raumpatrouille Orion, often referred to as the German Star Trek...

At last a copy of the Joe Brown road safety PIF has surfaced on youtube. I had given up looking quite a while back, but it seems it was posted a year ago.
"Oi, put yer handbrake on!"

I have a dim and distant memory of watching one of these progammes at school in the mid-1970s. Wow! Regards, Richard I'm old enough to remember them from school as well. I wonder if they exist anywhere in high quality? I think they were made on 16mm, so who knows?

Amongst other gems at the Bristol Slapstick Festival, on Saturday 21 Jan: "A chance to see the Bonzo Dog’s holy grail of lost performances, a newly restored episode of Colour Me Pop, a special featuring the Bonzos from 1968, in all its completely restored glory . Join Bonzo founding member, Neil Innes in conversation with BFI TV Consultant Dick Fiddy for onstage chat and reminiscing." Also on 19 Jan at the same event, a celebration of Rik Mayall: "The loss of Rik Mayall in 2014 came as a frying pan blow to the world of comedy. A true one-off and comedy eccentric, the life of this fabulously anarchic comedian is celebrated in a special tribute looking back over a bombastic 35 year career. Robin Ince presents a series of clips of Rik Mayall – some so rare they are not even all over Youtube – from his early appearance with Ade Edmondson on The Oxford Road Show and Out Go The Lights, to other magnificent outrages. He will be joined by Michael Legge, to celebrate the anarchy, intensity and blazing stupidity of Rik." Lots of other good stuff too. www.slapstick.org.uk

Interesting feature and photos on the subject of radio sound effects on the BBC website here: linkIsn't that a pre-Blue Peter Biddy Baxter in two of the photos?

On this week's show Mr Bates mentioned a BBC show on XTC due soon. Does anyone know what this show was? I only know of the C4 show a few years later, and a special feature on Andy Batten-Foster's RPM (I think) at around the same time. Also good to see the brief interview with Lynda Carter, which was unexpected.

So why the tweet announcing it's rediscovery? Has it just been used in something recently? It's appearing at the Smallspace sci-fi and fantasy modelling event near Milton Keynes on 12 July. Here's a link to some photos of the reveal on the event website... Whomobile revealed!

Something from 'Ace of Wands', probably the last episode of either 'Seven Serpents, Sulpher and Salt' or 'Joker' would be my choice.

Confirmed by the BBC - no more DLT repeats. linkOn Wednesday, a spokeswoman confirmed "the BBC will not show Top of the Pops repeats fronted by Dave Lee Travis". The spokeswoman added: "We will consider any other archive appearances on a case by case basis."

I've got the Charly dvd and sadly it's not on there. It was only a few years ago that I realised that 'Joe' was actually Joe Brown, as the long haired chap in the PIF looks nothing like Joe in his early 60s heyday and I never associated the two.

I use Adobe Audition 3.0, which allows you to sample a clean section of the hum and then adjust the parameters of the 'correction' until you are happy with the result. Because it's rather old software, if you create an Adobe account you can download it in full from their website. I often use it on a low setting to remove noise from 78rpm records. It works well, but if the setting is too high it can leave the recording sounding rather 'empty'. I've not used it to remove hum, but it may be worth a try.

www.lostshows.comWould be a good place to start your search if you haven't already looked there? Sadly there doesn't seem to be any record of it there. Does anyone know who holds the HTV West archives these days, so I can enquire?
