I kept a diary during the school holidays in those days, and the entry for Thursday April 19th, 1973 says I watched Top Of The Pops, along with Z Cars. I rememeber Argent on the show with that song, but I don't know that it was specifically that week as I didn't list the comtents. The previous week there defintely wasn't a Top Of The Pops and a Gilbert O'Sullivan show was put on isntead, which I didn't watch.

Most TOTP cancelled due to strike action were scheduled in the RT - and are thus nearly all on Genome. Gives us valuable info on who was due to host the shows that never were - even the protracted Summer 74 & Summer 80 strikes. For instance, 5-6-80 was due to be Simon Bates hosting, 12-6-80 Jimmy Savile; the first show of September 73 Kenny Everett; 5-4-84 was due to be a Peel/Jensen show etc The best answer to this will come from any ex-BBC staff who worked the shows and kept diaries i believe T.REX MADE a video for the single LIGHT OF LOVE to be shown on TOTPS JULY74 but was never shown because of the industrial action , the video itself came out in the mid 80's

My memory is c**p usually so I'll see if I can piece together some viewers comments re TOTP from their letters at the time. The one memory I can remember is T.Rex singing "Ride A White Swan" on TOTP I'm sure Marc bolan was wearing what looked like a Roman Centurions armour? hi WILLIAM , was this the performance of RIDE A WHITE SWAN on TOTPS Attachments:

Ride a White Swan was number 11 in the Disc charts that week up from number 17 the previous week. Peter Nelson of White Plains reviewing the latest chart singles that week said " I like T.Rex "Ride a White Swan" It's different. I have'nt heard much of them"This is from the Scene column of Disc and Music Echo 28/11/70: Marc Bolan deliberating last week whether to wear his breastplate on Top of the Pops this week. Last time T.Rex appeared, Marc was wearing dungarees and was asked if he would mind covering his nipples up!so I have'nt been imagining things all these years and Marc Bolan did wear a Roman Centurion breastplate on Top of the Pops!

here are some more black and white snaps taken from the TOTPS studio 1970 , the difference with these to the previous pic of T.REX performing RIDE A WHITE SWAN is Marc has a top under the dungarees and is playing the white strat , these pics are probably from the rehearsals for the same performance which was broadcast on the 26TH NOV 1970 THE PHOTO'S are taken from a couple of proof sheets which contain some non t.rex pics which i will post next

Most photos from this period are probably taken by Harry Goodwin, who did most of the photos pre-74.

Neil Bogart had a lot of faith in him. Bogart lived fast and hard and partied and died at 39, five years after Marc. He signed Ringo in 1982, the year he did, although Ringo's album came out the following year.

Martin Barden may know for sure. Marc spent a lot of time abroad in 73-76 (the old <60 days in the UK and pay less income tax ruse, which a lot of stars were doing during the Seventies.)
