Took delivery today of a 1960's reel to reel recorder/player with a spool of tape......playing it back in places it's got a lot of TOTP recordings (mic to near TV) from 1965/66 - I can hear applause and several places Jimmy Savile links ...not played it fully,so will keep you all informed...I wanted the player (as it's a 4 track) but the tape contents were a big bonus!!!

Considering they were recorded in the usual mic to tv method which normally isn't too great...the sound is pretty good...very occasionally you hear faint background noise ..i'm assuming from the people watching the tv,but all in all very good. When I got the player today, the tape plus spool was half and half,so played it in places and found odds and ends...I think I've found 1/4/65. I rewound it to the start and i'm playing it from start to finish. So far I 've found TOTP 3/3/66,10/3/66 and 17/3/66 - all complete but without links, opening, ends etc... Next on the tape is 18/8/66...starts with The Beatles - yellow submarine (I think is chart rundown or crowds) then a brief snatch of 'this weeks top dj ....'followed by a live vocals by cliff Bennett and alan price with napoleon xlv,ken dodd......i'm still listening as of 10.40pm....

Will do Jerry.....just found 30/6/66!! ...The Beatles 'Paperback Writer' has just played,i think it's the crowd/chart rundown with 'this weeks top dj Alan Freeman',now playing 'Lana' by Roy Orbison, now 'Bus Stop' by the Hollies ...trouble is the person who is recording it is talking faintly off/on in the background.

Found 12/5/66 this morning...again without opening/closing music..but I did find one link after Peter Cook/Dudley Moore 'Bo Duddley' by Pete Murray saying something like 'that was the great soul singer..' (without checking it,i'm not sure exactly). The plan is to copy all recordings over to my pc and then to keep the original reel safe.

Just found an edited edition from 6/5/65 and a complete editon from 2/12/65. Both have no title music etc... but the 2/12/65 has a short 'this weeks top dj...' which isn't named but I believe it's Pete Murray
Also found a complete edition from 17/2/66 and at last I've found a link by Alan Freeman introducing The Mindbenders.
