I think that the Horror Channel showings would have made an ideal platform to show WOF.A cable channel obscure enough and specialist enough to introduce tele - snap recons to a wider audience and Web is true horror in the classic sense of the genre. Come to mention it, Time Warrior and Planet of the Spiders also fit the bill perfectly! Seeds of Doom, Jaz? That one scared me to death when I first saw it. It's a real horror story. Seeds is a classic ! Though Terror of the Autons scared the willies out of me back in 71 !

Jaspal, i prefer those days to all this cgi rubbish ! Yes, the new series only seems to produce humanoid species or serpents using CGI I've noticed.Gets boring after a while-the CGI creatures have a similar sheen and movement to them.

Also, when amy and rory where on board the show felt like the partridge family at times ! Its just not my cup of tea all this arcing and bridging stories that just confuse and make the show like a soap !

we have mentioned the 'horror' angle before in this thread
With still so much Hartnell & Troughton missing (it appears) it's unfortunately hard to properly represent the best of the sixties - if all were back then it might be different but re any actual "horror" angle maybe:
1) Daleks or Dalek Invasion of Earth - both have hefty body counts (Invasion opens with a Roboman's suicide !) - while the Robomen having their minds 'burnt out' and crippled scientist Dortmun's sacrifice (a memorable camera shot over the shoulder of his corpse looking at Barbara & Jenny stands out too - tho' including the CGI Dalek saucers might be wise !)
2) The Web of Fear (sadly part 3 absent) would make an ideal Troughton with the Yeti killing the old guy at the start plus the claustrophobic London Undeground setting...
3) Spearhead From Space with it's shop window dummies coming to life zapping shoppers and the plastic faced Autons etc, was a strong Pertwee tale re horror angle - or perhaps 'The Daemons' with it's Denis Wheatley style
4) The Seeds of Doom - The Krynoid was really well done, and the taking over of two people by it...plus the soldier & Harrison Chase getting minced up was decent re the horror angle ('Planet of Evil', 'Pyramids of Mars', and 'Talons of Weng Chiang' might all be contenders too)
5) maybe 'Kinda' or 'Snakedance' re the 'Evil of The Mara' & possession aspect would be in the horror style for Peter Davison's fifth Doctor
6) Vengeance on Varos - surely Colin Baker's most chilling story...? ("Revelation of The Daleks' could and SHOULD have been but for that plonker Dr.Jobell, the besotted with him half wit nurse, & Alexei Sayle proving just how much.... he couldn't act...while actually featuring The Doctor a bit might have considerably helped the tale...)
7) possibly 'Curse of Fenric' is best for McCoy re the viking angle, the city girls getting taken over, the presence of 'Evil' again....while Alfred Lynch, Dinsdale Landon, and Nick Parsons all gave fine acting support (which McCoy always needed in truth) - there is also 'Ghost Light' but I've never rated that story very highly (despite giving it repeated chances to impress me) , while 'Paradise Towers' COULD have been - it had some chilling aspects - had it not been reduced to such a silly panto farce style !
the 'style' the stories are played in is so very important for Dr.Who - note that the horror channel are NOT screening any: 'Gunfighters', 'Creature From The Pit', 'Timeflight', 'Twin Dilemma', 'Time and The Rani', or 'Delta and The Bannermen' in their 'Dr.Who' run are they....?
I've long given up on BBC Wales modern version, but I suspect they have to play to alot of 'unwritten PC rules' today - seeing Barbara & Susan TERRIFIED and screaming in 'An Unearthly Child' yesterday (perfectly logical given their grim situation) it struck me that now the female companions would never be portrayed like that - instead they have to be duly 'championed' and depicted as 'feisty' etc no matter how absurd or unlikely it might be (for example a Rose or Martha etc instantly take charge on a future spaceraft in a desperate situation that a future crew of space personnel can't cope with..despite the fact it's absolute tosh !)
...while today it would far more likely be say a 'Mickey' than a 'Rose' or a 'Rory' than an 'Amy' who would have to do all the screaming these days....!!
in short for the companions the girls MUST always be 'feisty' and confident while (any) boys MUST be dopey/drippy/flawed & lacking in any strong persona and these days in stories they CAN always happily ridicule or belittle the British or American authorities/establishment/governments (who are always nice safe easy targets - even Bob Holmes was forever 'sniping away' merrily at the British upper classes types & Civil Service in the seventies ) ...but NEVER make any such 'digs' at certain other countries....
I think there are alot of 'Ring fenced' parties who are immune from any belittlement in modern tales, while others (say the 'Dads' as depicted in that 'Idiots Lantern' piffle some time back ) are always prime fodder for a good hearty repeated kicking...!

Great post Patrick.
Something that unexpectedly chilled me to the bone was the air of menace when the Doctor confronts Koquillion in the final episode of The Rescue. That's an amazing scene and made me re-evaluate the Hartnell era.
Has anyone spotted that the Krynoid is a re-sprayed Axon monster?

I spotted a Draconian part costume in Destiny of the daleks. One of the Quarry slaves And a Movellan i think One of the dead prisoners in The Stones of Blood is a wirrn (I think that's spelt right). If we're talking sets too I think the information banks from The Ark in Space were reused in The Sun Makers. And that computer bank (I think we all know which one I'm referring to) was used a hundred times Also, slightly side tracking, in Blake's 7 series 4 they use a sea devil and Omega's costume from The Three Doctors (without the mask) I thought it was hilarious when I first noticed Come to think of it, I think they recycled a number of actors as well...

Yes,and that computer bank was originally designed and made for the ITV series UFO,back in the late 60s for Gerry Anderson.

Come to mention it, Time Warrior and Planet of the Spiders also fit the bill perfectly! If it were complete, then maybe, but showing 25 minutes of screengrabs would be ratings suicide, and for a channel like Horror, whose ratings are already fairly weeny, it would be madness.

to introduce tele - snap recons to a wider audience I agree with Rob. Very, very specialist and not of interest to most people at all no matter how you try and dress it up.
