When any former MEs are back with the BBC having been checked and lovingly restored we'll know which eps are still missing. All the half whispers and challenges to duels are not helping that process run to its conclusion. Get yourself home, slap WoF or Enemy on the DVD player or iPlayer and remember how bloody lucky we all are. I keep both on my phone Simon. And I still can't believe that they're there! Good for you Paul I hope I can admit this in the confines of this forum amongst friends but above all the stresses of my career, the worries of family and health I have lain awake late at night very many times pondering how I could ever get to see Web - invent time travel? persuade someone to animate it? get the Moff to retell the story(shudder)? Now I have to find something else to worry about. Now, how would I go about recreating Fury? Hmmmmmmm.............

Just thought I'd bump this thread up a bit.
I can think of a few stories that would hold Holy Grail like status if they were missing.
An Unearthly Child The Daleks The Dalek Invasion of Earth The Chase The War Games
I am sure that there are others that could be included on this list.
I deliberately left out stories like The Tomb of the Cybermen and the Time Meddler as they were previously missing from the achives.

Of course, there's the German short story by whoever about the bloke who lived his life backwards.(OK,it was also used by Alan Moore in 2000AD).He'd have a lot of classic Who to look forward to,except he'd see it in the wrong order. Then again if everything turns/turned up in 2017,he'll be familiar with it already...
Added: come to think of it,every word and gesture would be running backwards, too!

Before I got to see it, I saw The Keys of Marinus - which is OK but feels like it could have done more with its premise. I always thought The Chase was The Keys of Marinus with Daleks. I would have put The Mind Robber up there. And, if we want to go into the Pertwees (considering that many of those were missing until the overseas returns to the BBC), I would add Spearhead from Space, Terror of the Autons, The Daemons, Day of the Daleks, and The Three Doctors. Aside: According to an article on cracked.com, the entirety of Monty Python's Flying Circus would have met the same fate had not a couple of the troupe purchased copies from the BBC. Can you imagine if THAT had been lost too?

It was as if the Carry On Team (or JNT on work experience) did a Doctor Who story. As someone reminded me here, it's saving grace is the arrival of Steven and Ian and Barbara's farewell.

Apart from a few silly moments I quite like The Chase! I mean it's the sixties Daleks and the first time we see their slats on their shoulders and The Dalek Supreme back on Skaro giving his orders!

Yes! Sure, it's got issues. But at least it moves along. I watched all the extant Hartnell and Troughton serials for the first time in the 1990s when Space here aired them all. The Chase seemed to be more watchable than The Sensorites, Web Planet, or even the final 3 episodes of Space Museum (I quite enjoyed episode 1).

I bet "The Keys of Marinus", "The Aztecs", "The Mind Robber" and "The Seeds of Death" would probably hold "Holy Grail" status as well.
Marinus because of all the different sets used Aztecs because of it just being a great story (Like Marco Polo) Mind Robber because everyone would want to now how the Medusa and the Minotaur looked. (Also episode 1 is one of the greatest episodes of Doctor Who ever filmed) And Seeds of Death because if it was completely missing, we would only have about three 60s episodes with the Ice Warriors included. (Ice Warriors 4, 5 & 6)
There Might be some more, but I totally agree about "The Daleks" and "The Dalek Invasion of Earth".

Some existing stories seemed to have been built up a reputation before they were released on video (or even a rare repeat).

Tomb too confined, and Enemy 1 and 6 are good, but the rest is very Average to me. Another two are Daemons and Androzani. I guess we all like something different !

You think Androzani is overrated.. each to their own.. I think its one of theabsolute high points of Doctor Who(except the maligned Magma Beast.. its really bad)... I really enjoy how peripheral Peri and the Dr are to the Plot, It is one of the "all time Classics" that deserves its title. Daemons I agree with.. Just not my cup of tea. , I was pleasantly surprised how strong Enemy was.

I've certainly heard of Tomb & The Daemons being bigged up before the 1990s, along with The Web Planet.

I like the krotons far better the Androzani I will get my coat You're not the only one who feels like that, I think the last episode of The Caves Of Androzani is brilliant, but the first three seem to drag (at least for me). I especially dislike the scene where Stotz and Krelper have their so called "fight" on a cliff top.
