Aztecs, With the daleks close behind. Mind you, if Polo comes back it could sweep the whole thing! I agree. I love The Daleks, but if it is found then Marco Polo will most likely take the top spot on my list.

I voted for the Keys of Marinus, I was undecided between that and the Aztecs, but I like the adventure part of Keys and the different setting/ stories in it.

My First Post here… Thank you!
Last Year I started watching Doctor Who from An Unearthly Child and currently just finished the Celestial Toymaker. I've been watching the series in order from episode 1 and it is nice to see this poll concerning the first season.
My favorite from season one is the Keys of Marinus, I love the high energy of the serial do to the quest aspects of the story. It just goes to so many place, I love the pulsating brains, the temple, the acid sea and the trapper. Everything just doesn't relate to each other but the great story ties everything together so well. Every episode ends with a nice sustain in anticipation of the next episode. The mysterious frogman outfits still stand up very well.
My second would be The Edge of Destruction then the Senorites and Daleks.

I can't rate Marco Polo because I've neither seen footage or heard audio.

In my view spreading it over episodes 5 and 6 wasn't a good idea!

I had to vote for An Unearthly Child for the 1st episode alone. I like the comic about the Tribe of Gum much more than I liked the tv serial about them (probably due a rewatch).
The first really was a good season when you look at it. I really like the missing 1st season Masters of Luxor Big Finish audio too, recommended.
I liked the Reign of Terror a lot, but when the animation came on my wife, who liked it up to that point (which is good seeing as she is not a fan) left the room. I also fell asleep at that point. Unless they did a color animation instead, Reign of Terror suffers more than most from being animated, the live part is quite good I think. Hopefully they wil find the missing episodes.
I really enjoyed the Sensorites at the time I saw it (early 80s), kind of creep, but interesting.
I really liked The Keys of Marinus too. It had a great 50s sci-fi adventure serial quality to it.
The Aztecs I liked a lot at the time. Seeing the Doctor flirt or whatever was odd to me then.
Marco Polo is the one I and pretty much all of fandom REALLY want to see live (or animated, maybe with color).
Inside the Spaceship was odd and didn't totally make sense. Seemed more like it was something they threw together when they realized they needed two more episodes.
The Daleks was of course a classic.

Inside the Spaceship was odd and didn't totally make sense. Seemed more like it was something they threw together when they realized they needed two more episodes. Well, on the one hand, Edge of Destruction was something they threw together when they realized they needed two more episodes, when the show was only contracted out to 13 episodes. But on the other hand, the thing I find fascinating about it is what it says about the creative process and the people involved with making the show. In hindsight, to me it's clearly an example of a show testing its own boundaries and an exercise in trying to figure out what they've created and what they can do with it. That's fascinating to see unfold. I sometimes wonder whether Logopolis would have turned out the same without it.

My favorite of the survivors is Aztecs. It has the best pacing. They're cut off from the TARDIS almost immediately. And not in a "Well, we just have to outrun these cavemen" or "We just have to get out of Paris." It's behind a tomb door. A friend had the best line about it. When Barbara pulls the knife when Ian is about to be killed? Her retort, "Well, she is a school teacher. She knows these things."

When I first watched The Edge of Destruction, I really didn't like it. But since then I've seen it many more times, and now I really quite like it!
