Thoroughly enjoying watching this wonderful series once again on Network's DVD release, but it has raised an interesting question, at least for me! When I last saw the episode "The House on a Haunted Hill" in the 1970's unless my memory is playing up (again), the ending was different. On the 70's version, after the arrests had been made, IIRC a "real" ghost of a Cavalier walked down the stairs, scaring Marty. The current DVD version cuts away after the arrests to Jeff, Jeanie and Marty in the Vauxhall Victor driving away having a discussion. Does anyone know if I am right and if so why the alternative version was made?

Just looked at my Carlton release edition of this episode. The arrests are made and Jeff leaves. There is ghostly laughter (but no ghost)and then Marty looks around a little spooked and then vanishes. It then cuts to the car. Hope this helps.

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone else remembers an alternative end to this episode with a ghost of a cavalier walking across the room and scaring Marty rather than just the ghostly laughter which was on the Carlton release too, or is it a case of my memory mixing up two different programs. To be honest, I am as sure as I can be that I'm right but on the other hand I'd be happy to be proved wrong. The 1970's repeat in question would have been around 1977 on Southern TV as I remember watching it with my Grandfather.
