I'm simply concerned that if we start threads with no relation to missing material, then we open the floodgates, and next think we'll be debating is the pros and cons of the 7th Doctor, whether we should boycott Who if they don't bring it back without Ace, the latest adventures of David Letterman and Romana, and whether or not Dave Shariff Yadallee is a troll or not. (or whatever it is that happens on general Doctor Who forums these days).
But I've given my thoughts on the issue. I don't have anything else to say, other than don't mistake simple bluntness for aggressivity.

Most specialised topic forums like this have areas or threads where general material can be talked about or discussed. I find that it is a good way to get to know people better. Most of the time we discuss missing episodes and the like but every once 'n' a while we want something completly off topic to talk about. Maybe to satisfy those that think this an innapropiate place the mods could consider making a general off topic Dr Who page? Just my thoughts....

There will be an Off Topic area in due course, which will be the natural home for threads like this. Until then, we're happy for this thread to remain open AS LONG AS IT REMAINS CIVIL and as long as it remains about the thread subject and not moderating policy.

I'd be wary that the off-topic area would ultimately wag the dog.
Could at least then if people are going to link to pictures and videos on other sites, to at least explain and provide some context of what and why they are linking, rather than just posting a link?

I'm sure you're not really this needlessly rude in person, Nicholas. Seriously, what do you think is being helped by this? With respect, I'll remind you that we're following the leads of both the Mods and each other in being civil and inclusive here. If that's not your bag, why kick up such a fuss instead of following your own advice? I haven't been rude; if you have perceived that, let me assure you that you are mistaken. I'll remain polite. Please take this off-topic discussion elsewhere. Why would we be discussing Capaldi here any more than the price of oil, the weather in the Malay peninsular, or car prices in the UK? There's no missing Capaldi I'm aware of. Really? I can think of one fairly key scene which went missing before the story it was in was even broadcast. I was rather hoping it would be restored for the recent DVD release, but sadly not...In what way does this discussion being here negatively impact this board?

I'd be wary that the off-topic area would ultimately wag the dog. True, but then we would be looking to be far stricter in the on-topic areas. And we would also expect people to self-moderate to a certain extent, and ask is this thread really necessary..? At the end of the day, we have to find a balance between confining ourselves purely to strictly on-topic threads (and thus risking the forum dying on its arse) and letting the forum be overrun with inane threads about which classic series planets most deserve to be mentioned in the new series.

The answer to which is obviously Bandraginous V. The name just trips off the tongue. "Bandraginous Five, you will be avenged". Great name. Sorry, was that an inane post?

Really? I can think of one fairly key scene which went missing before the story it was in was even broadcast. Ah yes, I must have lost my head for a minute there! Though I'm not sure we've discussed it much! Avoiding spoilers and such, I did find that episode rather confusing. It wasn't until days later that I realised that the Sheriff was a robot. Which if I'd known, would have made the scene where you just saw his hand? (been a while) lying there a bit gruesome, less so. In what way does this discussion being here negatively impact this board? Just this discussion, not much. If over the next decade or so it grows, and the future off-topic board overwhelms this one ... I'd assume it would mean the end of the entire forum, as I don't think the mods would really have an interest in dealing with the ***show that a general forum always turns into.

I still think the excision of that scene was a ridiculous overreaction to a news story that most people would not have thought of in connection to it at all.

Not having seen the missing material it's hard to say. However, I think the end result, that ending with stray shot of a human's hand lying on the floor not attached to the body was very over the top. Apparently it was a robot hand, but there was little in the episode to establish that, and certainly went over my head!

There are rumours flying around that the next series will see the return of Lalla Ward's Romana, with K9.
