I am in the non-believer camp until I see the official announcement. I *will* however keep an open mind until December 3rd, after the MBW screenings. What's taking place on the 3rd? Surely MBW is on the 21st this year. The Scottish thing, which is on the 2nd. If we don't hear anything by the 3rd, we'll know.

Love how the Daily Mirror tried to add a spanner to the works with this; www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/doctor-who-missing-episodes-seven-2839102The fact that a) it's from the Daily Mirror, b) it says that Marco Polo has missing audio, which is completely false, and c) most extant clips from 16mm cine cameras are seconds rather than 24 minutes long, mean that I'm personally considering this to be completely fabricated fiction. I'd love to be proved wrong...

I think the article was referring to the filming was silent rather than the audio completely. That aside, how long were the 16mm film rolls for domestic use? I know that 8mm were only 4 mins in length. And again, I'm not an expert at all, but surely if it was not a professional set up, surely the recording would have been plagued by flicker as we have seen in other 'filmed' clips? But what do I know?

Alan As well as the silent film, they also said that some parts of 'missing' audio will have to be played by actors who sound as close to the originals as possible, which is just shoddy journalism because we know that the full audio exists - heck, I flippin' well own a copy of the BBC release of it on CD! And that's what I was thinking; the quality could almost certainly never be of release-worthy standard, surely? I'm not sure if techniques exist of eradicating the flicker, but if they do I expect they're expensive (the clips on the Lost In Time boxset all had flicker) and ridiculously time-consuming. Again, living in hope that we're wrong...

The gaps in the audio likely refer to the fact that David Holman did not record the recaps of each story, just the cliffhangers, which were copy/pasted to the beginning of each episode on the audio. Perhaps the recaps don't match the copy/paste footage and they HAVE to be re-recorded. I don't believe it myself (it's likely that they're just official BBC telerecordings), but this is my theory, my effort to make this make sense... If it makes sense at all.

Was the story in yesterday's print version of the Mirror?

With regards to the daily mail's story, 1963 would be very early if by some chance it was a domestic video recording and I really doubt many people would have had the facilities to make home telerecordings. In the event that their story turns out to be hokey, this should serve as a reminder not to believe anything they print!!
Hopefully Marco Polo will put in an appearance, indeed, hopefully lots of missing telly will, their story just doesn't sound super credible at the moment.

Dr Who Archive were reporting today that a conversation was overhead between Julian Glover and Phillip Morris that 'The Crusade' had apparently been found, this thread has now been taken down. It's getting closer...
