Yeah, I'm kind of enjoying Ray Donovan in a similar way, nothing particularly special about it but entertaining. Jon Voigt as always is oddly compelling to watch.

Got to put a plug in for Babylon Berlin shown recently on Sky Atlantic. Apparently the most expensive non English Language series ever made. Visually stunning, with a labyrinthine plot involving rival Communist groups, the Armenian Mafia, Tsarist Gold and the lead characters love for his missing brothers wife, set against the background of terrible poverty, wonderful music and wild partying it is compulsive viewing. Here's a clip. Sadly I couldn't find the version with English Subtitles which is a shame as the lyrics are very powerful. What makes the series so very special is that everyone knows the tragedy of what's to come. The story unfolds with no sign of the Nazis until the final episode of season 2 and Hitler only mentioned once in passing which just helps to build the tension. Best serious drama I've watched in years. youtu.be/QEFdrQcrjTU

I read a couple of reviews for this that are very favourable, so it is on my to do list, to be watched soon!
Another show worth a watch is a French sci fi show called 'Missions', which is about the first manned mission to Mars. Very good stuff.
Star trek Discovery, whilst not without a vocal online contingent who hate it with a passion, definitely scored a hit with myself and the sci fi fans I know. On request I have been showing it in the lunch breaks where I work and it has been a pretty big hit there too.

Did anyone else see the ITV2 comedy "Timewasters" a couple of months ago? I watched the whole series on the strength of a brief trailer for it, and it didn't disappoint at all. I found it a very funny and interesting take on the time travelling theme, with some superb dialogue that lampooned racism. Written by and starring Daniel Lawrence Taylor. Aforementioned trailer here:

I quite enjoyed Star Trek Discovery myself, I thought it got stronger as the season went on. I really enjoyed The Orville as well, but style wise it's a bit of a throwback to 90's Star Trek. A newish sci fi show that I got into last year is The Expanse. Complicated story, and it took a couple of episodes for me to get really into it, but it's a fascinating vision of a future where humans have colonised places all over our solar system.

The expanse is great stuff. Intelligent and made with high production values. Looking forward to the new season. The Orville is fun enough. It is indeed homage to 90s trek; not something I am getting on Blu Ray, but certainly worth a watch As for the last episode of trek - discovery (1.12), well.... I didn't see that coming!

Yes, I didn't see that coming either. A pity in some ways, but certainly an interesting plot twist. Westworld has been another favourite of mine. I always liked the original movie with Yul Brynner, so was interested to see how they would turn it into a TV show. Probably the thing I liked the most is that they actually answered a lot of the questions raised in the first season, some shows let it all drag on a bit too long! Not quite sci-fi, but The Man in the High Castle was another one I really enjoyed. Very vivid alternative reality set in the 1960s following an Axis victory. There really has been a lot of very good TV put out over the last few years with very high production values.

There really has been a lot of very good TV put out over the last few years with very high production values. 'Man in the high castle' was in my opinion head and shoulders above the other recent Phillip K Dick adaptation by Bryan Cranston. My old paperback has been read many times! I have only watched the first season but what I saw was good stuff and made by someone who had likely read the book PKD stories seem to lend themselves well to screen adaptations, but some of his later stuff would probably be challenging to film faithfully, somewhat like the majority of W S Burroughs's works. I heard that there are a glut of Vonnegut adaptations coming up which could be interesting, and an adaptation of 'Rendezvous with Rama', by Clarke. Lets hope they get those ones right! I thought the recent three part version of 'Childhood's end' wasn't too bad, but that could just be me of course The Westworld series, I have heard good things about; haven't gotten around to it just yet though.
