Just wondering about the different versions of The Dominators which have been recovered over the years; were any of them actually edited or is that a fan myth?
1978: 1 2 4 5 from Enterprises
1978: 1 2 3 4 5 from BFI
1995: 5 from ABC Australia
1996: Censor clips from ep4 from ABC Australia
Cheers in advance.

The Australian cut prints of eps 4 and 5 were definitely held, as those were the ones used on the 1990 BBC VHS release, and IIRC, the Prime screenings in 2000/01.

But the BFI ones were intact, right? Or was that only found out later when the DVD was being prepped for example?
And does anyone know where the 35mm copy of ep3 came from? BFI, enterprises or the old film library?

I think the 35mm came from Australia, and does anyone think that we will find episodes from the radio times campaign? i think we'll find something.

We might find something, but still, don't be expecting a return next week. Even if their has been a recovery (which there almost definitely hasn't been) that has come about due to the campaign, the chances are it won't be announced for another few months yet.

The BFI had the original uncut T/R negs of eps 1,2,4 & 5 as well as the cut ex-ABC prints, both sets donated to them by the BBC. The BBC later got copies of the ex-ABC prints, which were used for the VHS and foreign sales. The uncut negs were 'found' at the BFI when the DVD was being prepared.

BFI, enterprises or the old film library? I found this information from this website: www.purpleville.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/rtwebsite/archive.htm"Soon after the return of the material from BBC Enterprises, Sue Malden made enquires with the British Film Institute, to see if they held copies of any BBC programmes that the BBC itself no longer held. To her delight, three complete Patrick Troughton stories were discovered - ‘The Dominators’, ‘The Krotons’ and ‘The War Games’ - all on 16mm black and white film (apart from ‘The Dominators’ part 3, which was on 35mm). It was later discovered that episodes 4 and 5 of ‘The Dominators’ had originated from an overseas television company, and had minor cuts made to them." I hope this is what you're looking for

The death scenes were cuts, or not lingered on for so long. I was only reading about this the other night in 'Running through Corridors' and it made me want to re-watch the Dominators.
I had this on BBC video (along with Tomb) when I was a kid and watched it a number of times then, although only once so far when I got the DVD in 2009/10 whenever it came out.
I awlays find it a bit sad when we get back an epiode from a source that we already have (unless it's got cut material in it that're we're missing of course!) Seems so close and yet so far.

I guess I should read Wiped and answer my own questions before I ask them. So if the ex-ABC prints were returned in 1975 and found in 1978 - where did The Dominators 5 from the ABC come from in 1995? A duplicate print from a regional broadcast?

A second (uncut) print of ep 5 definitely came back (although I don't know from where)... It's in my closet...

A duplicate print from a regional broadcast? It's been pretty much dismissed that the ABC used duplicates for regional broadcasts.

Definitely not -- it's on 60s stock, and of course at the time it was located, the fact that the BFI had uncut negs wasn't realized yet.
