There's an interesting series called 'Watching Ourselves; 60 years of Scottish TV' on at the moment-three of them on BBC iplayer so far. A clip of 'Scotch on the Rocks' is shown, with the narrator saying that such was the fuss over the show at the time, that "the BBC promised that they'd never show it again. Many people thought that the original mastertapes had been destroyed-until now. So,this is the first time it's been seen since it was hidden away in the dark vaults of the BBC".
I take it that there are still episodes missing,as listed at Lostshows?

It's a fascinating-sounding serial. I'm no archive expert but I've not heard of the two missing episodes having turned up. If you'll excuse the blatant self-promotion, there's a bit about the serial and the controversy about half way through this article: www.britishtelevisiondrama.org.uk/?p=351

Do we actully know if Ep 2 and 3 are actully missing?
The only ref to prove this to be the case is " The Kaleidoscope BBC Television Drama Research Guide, 1936-2011 edited by Simon Coward, Chris Perry and Richard Down, Kaleidoscope Ltd, 2011, p.2120"
BUT Watching Ourselves; 60 years of Scottish TV, was made a year later in 2012? So who is right?

So who is right? Generally,if (b) is a narrator on a TV programme about classic TV,I'd generally reckon that (a) was right-though things do turn up...I take it they meant to say "Although all episodes were until recently thought lost..."?

I think the original statement ("the BBC promised that they'd never show it again. Many people thought that the original mastertapes had been destroyed-until now. So,this is the first time it's been seen since it was hidden away in the dark vaults of the BBC") is wrong in any case.
I'm fairly sure a clip was used in the Timeshift episode Political Thrillers: Plays of State back in 2003.

Yes, I think the confusion lies in the fact that complaint against the programme being upheld ruled out any possibility of repeat, and it was probably assumed that it would make it a prime candidate for wiping. As it turned out, the latter was not wholly successful, and that only #2 & #3 were lost. More on the series on my website: www.625.org.uk/progfile/sotrocks.htm
