Wait. Could re-acting the missing episodes be cheaper than animation?
I mean ... think about it ... they've cast the 1st and 2nd doctor as well as Susan, Ian, Barbara, Steven, and maybe Vicki. Could they be thinking of trying that?

I'm sure they won't be re-making any episodes, but the idea of re-making them live action isn't as crazy as it sounds. There are plenty of great fan vids on youtube that are made on the cheap and look great. If they remade them abridged and cut the fat, stuck to the Black and White, and purposely kept the sets close to the originals (which means shoddy and cheap looking), then they could definitely pull it off. Besides funding, obviously, you would really need a production team with passion for the material. I say remake only the essentials like Dalek Masterplan, Tenth Planet 4, Power, Web, and Evil of the Daleks.

But I'm sure we would all disagree on what the essentials were.

Wait. Could re-acting the missing episodes be cheaper than animation? Not if you're talking about using the cast from this, no. You might have been in with a shout had The Edge of Destruction been missing...

Well, if they can afford make this one, and it looks authentic, why can't they restage one of the missing shows, perhaps as a Christmas special? They redid "A for Andromeda" and "The Quatermass Experiment".

Trouble is, Sue, it's not the sort of thing I could see BBC One or BBC Two doing, and BBC Four has no drama budget these days.

I have long been of the opinion that using live actors and sets to remake missing episodes would be a lot cheaper than animation. Will it be done by the BBC in the forseeable future? I doubt it. Would it actually be any good if it did happen? That is a matter for conjecture; it would be hard to get it right. Its probably one that will be left to the fans; some of the fan films from the star trek and star wars fanbase have fairly high production values, similar to your average B movie. Editing and compositing etc can be inexpensively done on a laptop with inexpensive software so theres nothing really stopping them except the patience and effort involved and a bit of talent. Would the contemporary fan base of doctor who want to put 'an inventive Tennanty Wennanty' twist on it? Almost certainly. Make of that what you will.
