I have unearthed a number of clips in an archive from missing drama and comedy shows - mainly 60's (No Dr Who, I might add....).
When I say CLIPS, I literally mean brief excerpts, ranging from 5 minutes downwards.
Now, I intend to start a thread tomorrow on this. The point is, while clips are not exactly frowned uopn (most are 16mm, some telerecordings), I think it's important for the development of lostshows.com, and future footage finders to know that a bit of that show exists, be it a scene, a sketch, a song, whatever.
One of the clips comes from an entirely missing mid-60's comedy show. Surely, that's got to be interesting????
Views please....

I always think it's better to retain punchlines of jokes,if possible, since people seem to find those the funniest bits. But seriously,folks...I'm all for retrieving every sliver of material, but the task of cataloging everything would be tremendous.

John, I expect to come up with a list of 30 or so clips in the next couple of days.
Literally, it's just so they are known about by all and sundry. Some are known about already, some aren't. Nothing perhaps earth-shattering, but a find is a find is a find.

What you often seem to get is that when something IS highlighted here, someone will come on and say "I've known about that for years.I didn't mention it because I thought that everyone knew about it." Which must mean that when people have a list they can check, they'll be much happier coming forward about that clip on Youtube, etc.

Clips from missing shows are ALWAYS worthwhile and welcome even though the chances of ever getting to see them in any form are rather remote. Look at the "19th Nervous Breakdown" discovery - Stones fans would be thrilled to see those fragments. If it was 10 seconds of a lost Beatles clip, it would be pounced upon as an important discovery, so anything from any shows that are missing are just as important. Better to have a short clip from a missing show than nothing at all.
Bring the list on!

I'd say if you're happy to spend the time doing it, then go for it, it's a great idea - I can't think of a reason why anyone wouldn't want you to do it..!

I have no idea what Ray has unearthed, but with the large ammounts of archive television seeing the light of day on DVD there is always the possibility of getting clips and other odds and ends released as extras on DVDs.

All this will be is fragments that exist, otherwise orphaned, in libraries, starting with one in particular.
Kal will know about some of the excerpts already, if not all, but I feel it's important some sort of database is kept.
This was bugging me before I went into hospital.
Now, as an example, it may be something like 30 secs to 5 mins of Dr Finlay's Casebook, or a Z Cars or a variety show, or whatever, but, all definite knowledge, is, I believe, good knowledge.
I won't rush this, so expect a few finds a day for weekdays for a week or two. I'm predicting around thirty as a guesstimate.
I'm not rushing, as I want to do this well, and also I'm still not 100% on my game yet.
The average excerpt seems to last 90secs to 2mins, and quite a lot are known about. So don't get too excited.
No TOTP or Dr Who will be covered (that's been done, latterly, and in the former case, I'm compling a TOTP promo and insert guide SLOWLY.), But Z Cars and Til Death will be. Many of these, to repeat ARE KNOWN about.
But, when it comes to finding a few minutes of footage of a 1966 comedy show otherwise entirely missing, I think the ends justify the means. Most will be broadcast quality, by the way.
(PS, still checking on the BCR missing footage find....from 75 and 71!!!!)

Just harking back to the Stones footage....apparaently some screen shots have gotten out....no idea who leaked them....(giggle), it would be lovely if they appeared on youtube by the end of August, which, my legal expert tells me, is ok under 'fair use'. So just to recap it would be lovely if the 35 seconds (of which I give a detailed description of on the relevant thread) appeared on youtube around the END OF AUGUST. Enfant terrible signing off....
