I was looking through some random pages in a quiet period at work and I noticed this post. I'm sure there was no further development as the last post was so long ago but it ass fascinating to read that there was a possibility of 'Let's Go To San Francisco' (I'm assuming) existing out there in the wild clothed yonder. Fascinating because nothing at all from TOTP from that hallowed month of September 1967 has shown up.
One other TOTP '67 question; 'Let's Spend The Night Together' is a clip from 27/01/67 re used for the Boxing Day 1967 show. Was the film of 'San Francisco' also a retrospective clip (I'd make an educated guess it would be from 10/08/67) or was it put together especially for that Boxing Day show. The footage comes from no later than that Summer. As a defining chart topper of the year I can understand the special effort to put it together for Christmas but it seems strange that Johnnie Stewart would've gone to that much trouble and not just repeated the clip that was shown when the single was at No.1. I'd love to know as any extra '67 survivor is precious.
Ps. Pity that BBC4 only showed two editions that have already had a repeat to mark the 60th anniversary.
My choices;
06/03/69
05/02/70
29/04/71
11/04/74
However, just to clarify, the San Franciscan-themed chart-topper from the summer of 1967 was 'San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)' by Scott McKenzie, a clip of which (a film insert, I think?) has, I believe, been around for a while. The discovery which is discussed here is 'Let's Go To San Francisco' by the British group The Flower Pot Men.
I thought I had seen a clip of this song repeated on some nostalgia show or other when I was very young (i.e. early 80s) but I guess I must be wrong! The memory does indeed play tricks!
