I agree that while its nice to have dreams, sadly, unless there is a stash out there Im not aware of, Im not expecting more than a few scattered episodes showing up. The archives of the NZ and australia circuit have been documented. The central american circuit we have most of what they showed and now with Sierra Leone, we have a documented result for the 3rd season of Hartnell. It doesnt look like there is going to be an archeological dig there either.
Hopefully there is enough in private collectors to get it down to 100. But unless someone made an effort to remove Dr Who from the skip unbenownst to us or someone was recording them off air in the 1960s and living in the dark ages, or there is an archive not known to us yet, Im not expecting more than a couple collections with an episode or two in them.

If I were to choose the one episode I'd really want finding, it would have to be "Assassin at Peking".
"Marco Polo" is my absolute favourite story from the classic era, because the sets and costumes, as far as the Tele-Snaps show, anyway, look simply amazing, and the characters are very enjoyable, and... well, there's something about Asian culture that I really like.
"Assassin at Peking" is where things get REALLY serious in it, right from the very beginning, with the stand-off between Ian and Tegana at the beginning, and the epic duel between Polo and Tegana at the end. Just from the soundtrack, I get a real sense of tension from the scene.
It also doesn't help me that a film can was found in New Zealand in the 90's, and that I met an artist for Doctor Who a few months back who remembered watching it as a child! For me, if any episode should be found again, I pray it will be that one.

Hi All, New here...
...and my first post in reply to this... is that I always find this question a bit unfair, a bit "loaded" shall we say, because if we are all only really allowed to pick 1, just 1 out of the 106... then everyone and i really mean everyone HAS To pick "The tenth planet" eps4 don't they?, really...
I mean if there was a choice a real tangible opportunity, then fandom at large isn't gonna be very happy with the person who chooses "The Savages" eps3 over Tenth Planet are they...
I personally was jumping for joy at the 2 returns at the end of last year, and i'm keeping everything crossed and praying that something else will turn up this year. What did surprise me was the number of people going "It's good, but it's only Galaxy 4 and Underwater Menace, it coulda been better..."
I would be personally overjoyed at ANY episode, and I do mean any, turning up at all... Thanks and sorry for the longish post.

Sez who? Personally I would rather any Troughton turn up, but particularly one from a serial where no complete episodes currently exist. I stated that top of my list would ''probably'' be Fury From The Deep 6, as there are no existing episodes, it's from the underrepresented Season 5, and it's also a significant episode(the departure of Victoria).
As far as Hartnells, I'm not even sure Tenth Planet 4 is top of that list for me.

Given that we have 75 percent of the story all ready, telesnaps and clips of the regeneration already, we've got a good idea of what it would of looked like. I'd choose episode 4 of the Massacre if I had to pick one.

Hmmm? Too many choices. Firstly I would have to say " Mission To The Unknown aka; The Dalek Cutaway " has to be on the top for me. As features None of the regular cast, The Daleks, The Alien Delegates, Kembel building up to the sadly incomplete saga of "The Dalek Masterplan ". After that, would have to say " Feast Of Steven " , primarily to see the only time the series broke the fourth wall ( when Hartnell wished Happy Christmas to All Of You At Home ) I would also have to say " Evil Of The Daleks " episode 7 or " Power Of The Daleks " episode 1. As Troughton's first adventure, no complete episodes exist for Power, and the final episode of Evil was supposed to be The Final END for the Daleks as will recall! Of course we get to see the existing studio footage, but not the complete ( as txd ) material that was supposed to be the END OF THE DALEKS!!
" Tenth Planet " episode 4 is a given, thinking that has always been at the top of SINGLE DESIRED items to be recovered- found. " Assassin at Peking " would be grand, great pick there. " Fury " final episode would also be neat to see. How about episode 1 of " The Wheel In Space " then? Features The Servo Robot and 1st episode with just Jamie and The Doctor for some time as well since Ben and Polly left at the end of " The Faceless Ones " as will of course recall here.
I am with you there Simon, in that I would be quite overjoyed with any, further episodes or material being recovered.
As they say " Great Minds Think Alike " in regards.
Cheers, Lance.

If I could only have one it'd have to be TP4. It's such a historic episode, the fact it's missing it's an absolute travesty.
Failing that It'd be Power 1. Then it'd be anything from Marco Polo followed by anything from any other completely missing story.

I would opt for anything missing from season 5 as someone else stated. Failing that something from a season 4 story. If I had to pick a hartnell, anything from the smugglers as I reckon this is actually one of the best historicals or DMP ep 12 as it sounds pretty epic on paper.

All i can say is that i would like to see recovered is that from the web of fear to wheel in space, i would be a lot more satisfied if such a moment came up.

All i can say is that i would like to see recovered is that from the web of fear to wheel in space, i would be a lot more satisfied if such a moment came up. To be fair I think season 5 is the biggest hole in doctor who's history. Its frustrating as it just seems like such a high point of the show from repeated listens to the audios over the last 20 odd years. The existing episodes are imo fine examples of who at it's strongest. I doubt we will ever get to see the rest of season 5. Such is life!

Ive definately enjoyed the recons of season 5 and I agree that they are some of the best moments in who history. While we're all disappointed about the past junkings, I guess we're thankful to have as much as we have. For many other shows all the audios dont exist and they dont have the stills, clips and telesnaps where we have been able to recreate them sort of as slide shows to get a feel of what they're like.

I completely agree George. Who fans, myself included, are completely spoilt in that we have audio for every single missing/lost episode. I do applaud the efforts of loose cannon in their reconstructions. Fury always particularly needled me by its abcense from my shelf (the BS I was fed by someone who claimed to have seen it and have info on the existence of episode 3 included) but after watching their recon I felt a certain analgesia on that particular life long grumble. I had a feeling that approximated having watched it.
As fans of who i suppose we have lots to grumble about and also to be greatful for. I am going to opt for the cup being half full.

The thing I wonder though is if there was more hunting for the audios of other shows in the 1970s and 80s if we would have more.
Doomwatch is a major question mark to me. I understand audios of shows such as Quatermass being less likely, but by the 1970s audio tapes were relatively cheap and commonplace. It really suprising there werent fans with recorders in the 1970s.
